Manuka Honey Great or Gimmick?

I love healthy herbs and foods and i do love honey however, i am yet to try Manuka mainly due to the price, i have heard that Heather honey is just as good but i wonder if all this is just a money making gimmick.
Has anybody else tried it and is it worth it!:xmassmile

    I always buy local honey
    I never buy mass produced honey as a lot of them are from mixed eu countries where the laws on pesticides are not as stringent as ours.
    Find a local market/little shop, keep business local...
    I found a local one which had ginger in it and it was fabulous
    make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
    and we will never, ever return.

    A friend of mine who keeps bees said it was just a very clever marketing gimmick for some New Zealand honey that tasted so rank they couldn't sell it.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

    Manuka honey is specifically honey from european bees which have been foraging on the manuka or tea tree.

    Despite all the claims i would not be surprised if it tasted terrible!

    According to that Wiki page it might well be a gimmick, in that there is no conclusive evidence of anything other than it being useful as a sweetener.

    iirc there's 10x the amount of honey that could be called manuka being sold as.....

    Also the active number often emboldened on jars is completely made up but costs you more the higher it is.

    Local's a great option due to it's lower environmental impact....

    If that's not an option then just go by taste!

    I was under the impression Manuka was for treating wounds and infections and not for eating?

    It can be for whatever you want ..
    Arguably any proper honey can be used for treating wounds, Manuka or not.
    The word "dilemma" comes from Greek where "di" means two and "lemma" means premise. Refers usually to difficult choice between two undesirable options.
    Often people seem to use this word mistakenly where "quandary" would fit better.

    My friend asked her son to get her a jar of honey at her local supermarket - he picked up the first he saw - 12 pounds! She rang me saying she usually pays about 2 pounds (sorry new Mac and don't know how to do pound signs yet). She told me it tasted just the same as her usual one. Anybody that pays that amount of money to spread something sweet on their toast is barmy.
