Very true, but it can be a starting point for some people who don't understand the descriptors. When I first did it months ago i under scored myself.:(0 -
I have an important question that I have never been able to get a definitive answer to :
The mobility question - distance (20/50/200 metres) - does it mean with any mobility aids - or "naked of aids" ?
It says "aided or unaided" - which is it ?0 -
This may help
https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/benefits/sick-or-disabled-people-and-carers/pip/help-with-your-claim/fill-in-form/14-moving-around/
And these are the points scored
Descriptors Points
a. Can stand and then move more than 200 metres, either aided or unaided. 0
b. Can stand and then move more than 50 metres but no more than 200 metres, either aided or unaided. 4
c. Can stand and then move unaided more than 20 metres but no more than 50 metres. 8
d. Can stand and then move using an aid or appliance more than 20 metres but no more than 50 metres. 10
e. Can stand and then move more than 1 metre but no more than 20 metres, either aided or unaided. 12
f. Cannot, either aided or unaided, (i) stand; or (ii) move more than 1 metre. 120 -
Sorry - but does "EITHER AIDED OR UNAIDED" mean what it looks like ?
We have the choice .... ?
And does "aid or appliance" include a wall, doorframe, hand rail or similar ?0 -
It's what you normally do.
If you walk with a stick, say, most of the time then you answer based on that.
Personally, I wouldn't say that a wall or a door were an aid. That's more a walking stick etc and are often those that would be recommended for you by a doctor or therapist. But, I would mention that you have to use these to get along when you are out walking if that's what you do.
You can use the space for extra information.0 -

If you use an aid such as a stick then tell them, if you don't then tell them this.0 -
Well, with reference to my original question, it has started and OH had his 'dreaded brown envelope' on Friday and has initiated the process.
I wonder when mine will come?Decluttering, 20 mins / day Jan 2024 2/20 -

When filling out the PIP form you should put as much information as possible about how his conditions affect him. Adding a couple of real life examples of what happened the last time he attempted that activity for each descriptor that applies to him will also help.
He can request his DLA file to be used as evidence but if it was a long time ago that he was assessed for this then you'll need up to dated evidence to support the PIP claim.
Good luck.0 -
