Hi all
I'm hoping for some advice. I am planning on buying a house through help to buy within the next 3 to 4 months. I am married but he is a foreign national on a spouse visa, and as far as I am aware he wouldn't be eligible for help to buy.
My question is whether I would be able to apply alone, but use savings for a deposit from a joint account that we have both contributed to?
Many thanks in advance for your help

You should be able to apply jointly. HTB is not restricted to UK/EU etc.
There are lenders which would have an issue and those that don't. Get broker help and this is a simple issue to overcome.I am a mortgage broker. Ah Ok, I assumed because his visa says 'no recourse to public funds' he wouldn't be eligible?0

No. We''re newbuild and HTB specialists and we've done purchases for many on Tier 1, Tier 2 and spouse's visas.
The public funds exclusion doesn't apply because the money is paid back.
If you have a look at a PIF, the HTB application, you can see there is provision for UK, EU/EEA, ILR and Other, where you enter nationality and visa type.
You will have limited lender options but an experienced newbuild/HTB broker will know who they are.I am a mortgage broker. 'no recourse to public funds' essentially means he cannot claim benefits. It doesn't apply to mortgages or HTB.0

Thank you! Didn't realise it would be a possibility. How do i find a good broker when the time comes?0

Hi, does anyone know whether my husband who is on a spouse visa can open a help to buy isa as the money(bonus) presumably would not be paid back?0

Dunno.
Ask a provider of such products and see what they say.I am a mortgage broker. You should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it. I am on a spouse visa myself and I opened a Help to Buy ISA a year ago. I am still not sure if I can ask for the bonus, as my visa states "no public funds", but I've read from several sources saying I can.0
