Critical Illness Payout - Best Account to Pay Funds Into

Hi there,
I've recently been diagnosed with breast cancer, which is covered under critical illness on our life policy. The claim is currently going through and I am confident that it will be paid.
My question is about where is is best to have the funds paid to - I am completely new to all of this!
Are there any tax implications if we get it paid into our normal joint account and potentially move it around later?
We plan to put the majority into a high interest account and continue paying the mortgage as normal until or current fixed term deal ends and then pay the full balance off to avoid early repayment charges. Is this the best thing to do? Anything we haven't thought of?
Any recommendations for high interest accounts?
Many thanks!
