Redeeming nectar points at vue question

Tried to buy a £4.99 vue cinema ticket with 1000 nectar points (worth £5)

Was told the system was only allowing 500 points redemption (worth £2.50)

Can anybody confirm this is definately correct i.e. number of points redeemed cannot be worth more than the ticket even when its only 1 pence more

The girl serving me didnt really look like she was very experienced in using the till, hence me asking for confirmation that was she said was correct
