  • Hello all and great to see the thread popping up - as you say it might help others, I do hope so as our combined heart and soul went into it!

Sorry to hear that mellymeep, wow they seem slippery -however, sometimes you get a stroke of luck and by some magical intervention, something comes to light...

Also wanted to ask, if now is ok to get rid of all the court paperwork? It's lurking evilly in a drawer...

Well fortunately my deposit was put into a protection scheme, so I've got that bit of positive news, although its mydeposits which is the type where the agents actually keep the deposit themselves, its not kept by the scheme. So it's going to be 10 times harder to get it back once the adjudication has completed (and I'm 99% certain they will rule in our favour.)

I know all too well the woes of a terrible landlord/agent. But I've read all of this thread and its really spurred me on to fight the cause until I physically can't any more.

""So it's going to be 10 times harder to get it back once the adjudication has completed ""

melly there is no good reason why this should be the case - if your LL does not lodge the disputed amount into the Mydeposit Scheme - then the insurance policy (which the LL has paid for) is meant to kick in and pay the tenant...
but i don tknow of any cases where this has happened as yet

If the LL does not lodge the money, s/he will de disabarred from using Mydeposits in the future. I have heard of one landlrod being thrown out.

Well i've sent off all the evidence for them now, just worried because we don't have a copy of the inventory, but from advice on this forum I've had I'm told that they don't have much of a leg to stand on without it. The landlord has offered us 150 quid back out of the 300 we paid each, but he's claiming for damages that were existent before we moved in so I am outright refusing to accept it.

  • Hey mellymeep is there any update yet since you last posted? I think that for you to get £150 back out of a total £600 is horrendous - hopefully your absence means you have been fighting the good fight! x

PS: Can I get rid of my court papers now all :o we're moving soon (bought a place - yay! :j) and I'd love to take none of that negative energy pile of paper ;)

Was referred to this thread by someone on a different thread where I was seeking advice on reclaiming my deposit - this has been an invaluable source of help to me and am going to follow some of the steps you have here to reclaim what is rightfully mine!! (Though I have to admit I haven't read entire thread - would take years!!)

Hope all is good with you now Eagerlearner! x
