Payday Loan Default - Ignoring Letters - Sunny

Good Evening,

I'll try and keep this as short and accurate as possible.

2014 I took out several payday loans, from various companies. Got myself in to a lot of debt but paid them off and called it a day.

Fast forward to January this year, my partner and I are both saving for a house. I decided it'd be best to check my credit score as its something I've never really checked and we'd be looking to buy this year. After a quick look my Credit Rating is 'Fair' but one payday loan company has placed a default on my credit file.

Obviously I was a little taken a back,so I attempted to log in to my account to see what had gone on but sadly I have no access to my old loans just a screen telling me I'd missed payments and the amount owed. I've had a look at my bank statements but again, cant really work out if I've missed payments or it's a mistake on their side.

In January I sent a (non recorded) letter to their head office, using the address on their website basically asking for a summary of my account and a possible explanation in to what had happened - No reply.

Early March I did the same, this time I attached a prepaid envelope with my address and made sure I sent it recorded - Letter was received and signed for - No Reply.

I sent another letter around 2 weeks ago, this time with a slightly stronger message. I've treble checked the address, my writing, everything. I just don't seem to be getting a reply.

Question - What is my next move?

I'm trying to avoid phone contact as I don't want to be stuck with no evidence if it goes to a dispute. However my letters aren't being answered. I don't recall ever receiving a letter from the company about a default, if I have and I've missed it or not read it - fine, my fault. Thats life.

I'd be more than willing to pay any money owed and have the default settled but I don't want to be conned in to paying something I don't have to.

Time is getting on and I've found a house I'd like, I'm almost certain we wont be getting a mortgage with this on my file, even though it was 3+ years a go it was placed.

Any help appreciated, apologies if this has been asked before. I did do a search but found very little.
