Can anyone explain exactly what

microSD, up to 32GB

means please.

I know this may seem like an obvious question, but is this because you only used to get sd cards up to 32GB or is there something special that means that a 64GB or 128GB simply wont work?

I've recently bought a basic levono tab3

(more info here https://www.gsmarena.com/lenovo_tab3_7-7951.php)

but I need storage space on it. Mymemory are offering 32GB for £10, 64GB for £17 or 128GB for £24.

For the difference in price I would opt for 128GB, but obviously if this simply wont work then it would be a waste of £24 and I can just spend a tenner.

    So the only way to find out is to buy bigger and try? Or is that a silly idea?

    Whilst the hardware may be able to support SDXC cards, ie, 64GB and greater, the version of Andoid only supports the FAT32 file system so only cards up to 32GB that can be formatted as FAT32, not exFAT or NTFS.

    That as said, there may be workarounds to get it to work, you'd be best looking at Lenovo specific forums.

    Utter rubbish. I don't know of anyone who has an android tablet or phone who struggles with "only" having 1GB of RAM and even those who only have 512MB only usually suffer because of the low CPU speed and not the memory.

    That is incorrect. The maximum partition size for FAT32 is 2 Terabytes. Windows Disk Management may only be able to create a partition of no more than 32GB but FAT32 actually supports up to 2TB.

    My phone says it only supports "up to 32GB". I have a 128GB card in it.


    To get it to work I use a windoze utility that formats the card as FAT32. Sorted.

    Windows utility? I thought Windows could natively format external cards/drives as FAT32, NTFS etc.?

    I should clarify my comment.
    I use a third party utility on windows XP. WinXP itself won't do it.

    There are different standards for SD cards. Cards up to 32GB are normally labelled SDHC and are formatted as FAT32 at the factory. Larger cards are normally labelled SDXC and are formatted as exFAT. Many devices cannot read the exFAT format so can't use these larger cards straight out of the box but if you format the card as FAT32 you may find that it will then work in your device (but no guarantees).
