Wedding Speech Help Bestwoman

I would cut it down too:
(Insert some sort of intro)
That I get through this speech without stuttering one word
Because me? public speaking? now that's absurd.
So please excuse my obvious nerves
Now let's focus on the bride come groom
But let's just take a minute before I resume
To look at Anna, Laura's beautiful wife
I am sure you will all agree that Anna looks stunning
And that they both look great together
So as Anna knows, Laura is one amazing person in many different ways
Perfect to Anna, I'm sure in every single way
The love between you two is real,
Something nobody else can feel,
So continue to love each other till the very end
Words from the heart that I do sincerely send
Because you my friends, deserve the very best
The love you have is treasure that can be found in no chest
Now a bit about me and my dearest friend
I met Laura at Busy Bees
A friendship that blossomed as if from seeds
Working together means a lot of time is spent with each other
We bicker, we argue even fight like brothers
Other people don't understand but that's just the way we get along
And through it all our friendship remains strong
So forget what people say as we get along in our own special way
A way that bought me here being bestwoman today
We've shared many memories and one time in public her trousers came all the way down
And she just stood there casually looking like a clown
That's what i like about you Laura - the fact you don't care
Your in it for the fun and the moments that we share
So we are celebrating the love between you and your wife
But also our amazing friendship which will stay strong through life
There are many memories that I could go through
But time is limited
So forgetting the memories for now that we share
And remembering the one thing that will always be true
Is that I will always be here for you
Thank you to you all, for listening to me ramble on
So let's clear this up and get the party started
But first a toast to the bride and bride
One which is fully whole hearted
So raise those glasses, pour that wine
To Laura and Anna0 -

Far too long and some of it not particularly pleasant. No one is going to think well of you coming out with that kind of stuff. Please take the advice already given.0

Really? I think I'd drop the 'poem' format completely.
Only properly experienced performance poets can really pull that stuff off, better to stay conversational and speak in a natural way.0 -
I think it's too long too.
And the content is a bit toe-curling cringe worthy.
If you do a poem, unless you practice, practice, practice it will - imho- - come across as very stilted.
And the people listening will not be 'with you'.
And I think you will sit down after the speech to murmurings of embarrassment.0 -
I'd take out the bit about her trousers coming down and bits about her temper. You and she might joke about those things but bear in mind that not all of the guests will have that same relationship with her - presumably her parents, and her fiancees parents, and maybe other older relatives, will all be there.
If you want to say anything about that incident I'd suggest that you make it less specific - perhaps reference her being in an embarrassing position when you were both !!!!ed but don't give details, and try to have a bit more about the positives of how her relationship with Anna - think about how they met, when Laura told you that Anna was 'the one' - those sorts of things
I personally would suggest that you think again about the poetry I'm sure that you've put a lot of effort into it but I think it will be really difficult to pull off, and - maybe do the first and last paragraphs as poems and the body of the speech as prose. All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)0 -
My DH has been a Best Man several times. One of his best speeches for his younger brother he pretended he'd put on the wrong jacket and had his brother's by mistake. Then he took various items out of the pockets that told a story about his brother : hobbies, eating habits, behaviour when they were out together etc etc. He just told a little story about each item such as his football season ticket which various friends and family could identify with.
You could do the same with a handbag.0 -

Your poem is far too long.
Keep it short and keep it sweet.
My mate told me about a wedding he attended a few years ago - the groom was a big fan of Rupert the Bear and there was lots of the nthings of all shapes and sizes dotted around the reception.
He tells me that the father's speech consisted of "I'm not sure if we should welcome Rupert into the family or (groom's name)" - at which point the place went quiet for a second or so then a loud cheer went up, followed by "ladies and gentlemen, I give yo9u a toast to ........", and that was it, he said it was the shortest and best wedding speech he has heard so far.0 -
Not that I'm particularly bothered - given I think weddings (not marriage) are far too expensive; and ultimately a waste of money.
But why bestwoman, and not maid-of-honour?0
