"Sealed Pot Challenge 3"

Hi again all dedicated Sealed Pot Savers! :j Here we go again with another Sealed Pot Challenge! This time it's "No 3" after having had 2 very successful money-saving years thanks to you ALL! For all those that know the procedure go right on and save! For all newcomers please read through below on this post and a couple of points on the 2nd post, though it's all relatively simple, I promise!
The idea is for us each to save as much as is possible throughout the following year until just before Christmas, hence why we seal the pots to save us being tempted from opening and spending it. Any spare cash can be put away, every day, week, month, whatever is best for us all. It's all very easy and all newcomers will very soon get the idea, but below are the basics.
Get yourselves pots, and remember that it doesn't need to cost much. Have a go at making yourself one by using Nykmedia's paper mache recipe by using this link http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/...605703&page=30 (the recipe can be found near the bottom of that page). If making your own doesn't appeal then buy a money box, piggy bank, ready sealed tins in well known, reasonably priced shops! If you wish, use any pot for now then take advantage of finding one in the sales after Christmas, or put whichever one you fancy on your Christmas list! You can even use a tin, coffee jar, gravy/drinking chocolate carton. There are many options in the house to choose from...which are extremely MSE. After selecting your pot, seal round the lid with cellotape, make a slit in the top..and away you go!
NB. If you make a paper mache pig/cow/penguin or whichever you wish to turn it into, then you won't need to seal it, though you will need to "operate" on it at the end of the challenge!! Still, you can always have the pleasure of making a new one towards the end of the year. "Terrimundi" pots, widely available in shops and on-line, are another already sealed way to save, and though they'd have you believe you need to smash it come the end of the year - you DO NOT!!! I've used mine all through this last year...and yesterday at the end of last year's challenge hubby and I had a whale of a time, doing things the 'old' way!
So be assured that, so long as you go carefully, you CAN use them again and again....unless you drop the darned things!
On this and the 2nd post is a list of members from over the last 2 years and their numbers which, to make it easy to remember, can be put on to your signatures. We've just had another truly amazing year, let's keep it going and see what we can achieve next year. Good luck everyone and save well!! To answer one or two queries which may arise:
1/ You don't have to put a Target at all if you don't wish to, just wait and see at the end of the year by all means. If you don't meet the target you set, it doesn't matter at all.
2/ You can put money in your pots whenever you wish to, some of us can only put a few pence each day or each week, whilst others manage a couple of pounds, but then we may go for a couple of weeks without being able to put any in. If you have change left after you've been shopping - stick it in the pot! Why not, it won't be missed. So it's all entirely up to everyone to please themselves, but to save all you can for YOUR sakes!
3/ Mainly it's a challenge to see how much we can save in a year for Christmas 2010. However, over the last couple of years we've had some members who needed theirs for bills, and personally, I'd far sooner they take it out for that rather than pay more interest or miss a due date. You can always start again, even if it's getting later in the year, just be happy with what YOU wish.
4/ Mainly we save for Christmas - but - if you wish to save for something special then please do so, the most important thing, to my mind, is that we're saving ...and hopefully not tempted to take it out unnecessarily. If anyone has any other queries, then please sing out ....though not too loudly, you might shatter the pots!

Thanks for the welcome, that's such a lovely sentiment and now I feel quite goose-pimplely, this really does feel like home and one big family.
You are quite right I should be putting something in on this very special day, so I'm going to put a shiney $2.00 coin in the pot, and I'm also going to state my intended target of $579.00 for this time next year, and no IOU's this time:rotfl::rotfl:
