Hi I got my insurance through carphone warehouse for my daughters last phone(blackberry). We had to make a claim on it after a year as some of the keys broke and problems with the signal. We had no problems with the claim, and my daughter was given a new phone.

I am now looking for insurance for the I phone going to check if my Bank provides insurance, otherwise would consider going back to Carphone Warehouse, just the insurance can be pricey if you have a expensive phone.

how much does it actually cost to repair broken iphone 4 screen ,im paying 8 pound a month ,and the access to repair it is 75 pound, i think it might be cheaper taking to a shop

Certainly, but if it is stolen, there's nothing for the repairer to fix, nor for any calls made to Mongolia until they shut down the SIM!

As a Specified Item on your home contents insurance, but do check as cover varies widely.
  • I have just read the terms and conditions and it states that you must have a receipt showing the phone was bought in the UK and Northern Ireland.

I bought online from the UK store but the receipt shows Ireland which is not in the UK. Obviously Apple do this to save corporation tax. It would mean my insurance would be invalid if I made a claim
  • We noticed that we'd been paying insurance to Carphone Warehouse (CW) for our daughter's phone she upgraded 4 years before but the direct debit wasn't cancelled. We thought it was for something else and as we upgraded through 3, CW didn't flag it up and kept taking the money by DD every 3 months. We went to CW and The Geek squad were superb, getting us a refund of £399.20, bit long winded but definitely worth it so keep checking the DD payments regularly.

I've got cover with the Lifestyle Group through Barclays bank and am going through a claim at the moment after I dropped my 18-month-old Android smartphone outside Iceland.

It is a slow process sending it off for repair - I had to post it off, then wait 10 working days, then have it posted back (and of course drive to the sorting office to collect it).

Unfortunately on testing it still hadn't been repaired - the non-responsive top left of the touch screen was now on the bottom right, almost as though the repair engineer had simply turned it round!

Interestingly when I called the claims line they asked, "has it just been repaired once so far?". I was surprised by the question and asked whether that was unusual, to which I was told, "Most have to go back to the repairers".

So now I have to post it off again... I do have a spare phone that I use while it's away, but it's still rather a lengthy and tiring way to get minor breakages fixed. I now find myself perusing instruction videos on YouTube and thinking I'd be better off repairing it myself...

P.S. the best rip off I ever heard was my Dad's friend. I'm sorry but I don't know which company it was!

He was on his boat and dropped his iPhone over the side in the Solent. It of course sank to the bottom.

He called his expensive iPhone insurance company and was told:
    - "It isn't lost because you know where it is"
    - "We don't know if it's broken or not because you haven't retrieved it"

    Oo, the cheating barstewards!

  • Do not touch CUSC foneguard with a barge pole. This company has no scruples or any decency in dealing with customers. They are have a get out clause for just about everything.
  • I agree with bluemonday. CUSC foneguard are awful. They couldn't reject my claim, but they used every means possible to try - questioned why I hadn't rung them immediately (I was in hospital due to the theft & mugging). Made requests for unreasonable information (o2 confirmed that it was unreasonable), and have taken nearly 3 weeks to process a claim that they advertise should take 4 days. I still haven't received my replacement phone & will update with what they send me - if they send it. I have my doubts. Never again will I use this company. I'd rather pay extra and have piece of mind with Carphone Warehouse insurance - who in contrast when I had to make a claim a few years ago were faultless.
