New job / current notice period advice

I am looking for any advice people can offer. I have struggled in my current job for past couple of months. I was promoted a year ago following handing in my notice for another job, but the role hasn’t been as I expected. Ultimately I feel like a failure, even though I do think I am generally a pretty capable person in the right role. I was contacted about another role recently, it’s closer to home, sounds like a really good fit for me and I’ve been offered same salary I’m on now today! Great news. But, I have a 3 month notice period in my current role (this hasn’t been touched on in interviews).... I will make new employer aware of this obviously but I’m concerned if they say they are ok with it, what happens if someone better comes along before I can leave and I end up stuck? This has all happened in the space of a week so it’s been a whirlwind and I’m also sick with fear of handing my notice in given how supportive my boss has been of my personal situation and he promoted me last year..... I’m sure moving is the right role for me , am I worrying myself un-necessarily? Apologies for the rambling on but I really do appreciate any advice anyone could give me?

I would ask your new employer about start dates.

I had in my notice recently and just said my last day working would X and left it at that.
