Stash Busting 2018 - I WILL use my mountains of craft stash before buying more! 3rd Jan 18 at 7:41 PM
    Hi crafters,

Using the concept from the 2017 thread (and going back as far as 2014 I think...) - originally set up by 'Crafting Mad' - this is hopefully to keep us all on track - and to help us all workour way through our crazy big stashes...

Welcome to the new 2018 stash busters thread.

You can find the 2016 thread here:-
    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.php?t=5386359

    and the 2017 thread here:
    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.php?t=5580023

Well done to all the crafters who took part in 2017. Everyone was amazing and the thread helped so many people that hopefully 2018 can be the same.

For those of you who are new here are a quick recap of the (very loose) rules:-

The rules of the challenge are simple.

You can make anything you like but everything you make must be made using items from your current stash.

You are allowed to print things from cds etc and print any photos etc which may be needed for scrap booking pages but you must not buy any new stash until your target has been met (except for if it is something to enable you to finish of a project such as adhesive etc).

However this challenge is just for fun so if you do sin (and I'm sure there will be many - with me at the top of the list!!) then post for forgiveness and keep creating and having fun xxx

So who's with me this year? Tell me your target and you'll be added to the list Old and new members are welcomed alike

Anyone can join in at any time

    Happy stash busting

I!!!8217;ve had a bit of a cop out day today. I!!!8217;ve polished a brass mirror frame it took ages and my hands are still seized in the shape of claws. Haha.

I managed to dig out some gloves so my hands don!!!8217;t smell too badly of brasso.

I have high hopes I!!!8217;ll hang some mirrors tomorrow.

I!!!8217;m adding one to my total. I have such high hopes that one day I will manage to actually make some thing...

    Hi All,

You must all be busy busting your stashes.

Finally I can enter my first stash busting offering. I made a skirt from curtains I bought form a CS ages ago for a wedding. Oddly I have never made a skirt. I have made three wedding dresses, two evening gowns and lots of curtains over the years.

The crochet project has been ongoing but I got bored. I am instead making some travel bags for two neices who are going to Spain and then Cyprus as they follow their forces father. They are 'busy bags' with drawing, fuzzy felt, easy games and a magnetic board. Will post when complete.

    Hi everyone,

I sort of lost my way for a while but I'm back on track now and have not bought any craft supplies so far this month at all. Not even spent 50p on anything despite gong into a few crafts shops with my mum. I'm so impressed with myself!!! I've also tidied my craft room and got a huge pile to destash so I'm feeling good

I know I've made lots in the time I've been away but I didn't keep track so I'm declaring a further 47 items towards my total for the items I have made in July so far

These makes includes lots of mini seed packs, motivational magnets, sticker sheets, a wooden photo frame, wool wrapped letters spelling love (from a kit I've had ages), birthday cards, a relaxation galaxy jar and a few frames.

So that takes my total to 340/700 (48.5% towards my total for the year)

    How's everyone else getting on?

Hi all, I've still not bought any craft goodies - that is most certainly a record for me. I even tuned into one of the craft channels the other day and was tempted at all

I'm just popping in to declare a further one make which was an angel in my pocket keyring made for an order I received.

That now takes me to 341/700 - 48% of my target completed

I'm feeling inspired to make something for me today so I'll hopefully be back later to declare something else towards my target

Hope your all busy creating xxx

Hi,please could I join? I tend to be a practical crafter, making things for my home and family with the least expense.I knit, crochet and sew.I enjoy hand sewing the most.I estimate about 28 weeks left of this year so I will aim for 28 makes.

This week I will finish a knitted throw in gold tones for my living room.

Blanket finished plus tassels to the corners.

I have almost finished a childs jumper for charity shoe box appeal. I don't understand the pattern for the neck so will have to take it to my Mum to decipher.

I have started a gold Christmas Tree skirt, made from a fancy pillow sham I had been given. I will have to buy some gold bias to finish it off. That's the trouble with using up the stash, you never have every thing needed to finish a piece off. I will buy the bias, have some left and that adds to the stash!

I have also sewn a patch on my daughters jacket and altered the sleeves on a blouse I bought from the charity shop.I know that's not stash but I feel its a job out of the way.

I have also been given 2 lovely balls of baby wool.

Hi everyone, just popping in to declare a further 5 items made. My son made two birthday cards for a joint birthday party he attended over the weekend and I've made an angel keyring, a bag of love and a scrabble tile frame for orders

I can't believe I've gone 22 days without buying any stash. I'm so proud of myself

So my total now stands at 346/700 (or 49% if like me you love percentages - so close to half way there)

Little jumper finished, even my Mum had trouble getting her head round the pattern and she has been knitting 80 years!

Christmas tree skirt finished.Whilst buying the gold braid for round the edge I did buy a piece of green Christmas material which I hope to use to finish something else off.

I also turned some trousers up and mended a blouse whilst the sewing basket was out.

Next I will make linen napkins from a white tablecloth I bought from the charity shop a while a go.

I made it - I went the whole of July without buying any craft supplies

Lets see how long I can last in August now before I weaken and add to my stash

    Well done,I have failed

Went to my friends today with a bag of scraps to try to decide on colours for a 3 kings wall hanging.Decided on golds to match my sittingroom but I only have 3 materials.Went to a local mill shop and found nothing but did buy a fat quarter with reindeer on!!!!!

I have decided to shelve the napkins for the moment.

I also took some patchwork squares with the Christmas material I bought last week and some dark green velvet. The squares are from an embrodered table cloth that my great Aunt made many years ago.I took the plunge and cut the table cloth up and will repurpose it into a christmas quilt. The embroidery is Holly and Robins.I have decided on the style now.It has taken me a long time to get this right in my head.

I did give my friend some snowflake material but she gave me some ribbon and some velcro.oops.

RL has been getting in the way this week and have not had the time to do any crafting.

I bought a £1 dress from the charity shop which is a beige colour with a gold sheen.I have spent ages unpicking it and it will be the background for the 3 Kings wall hanging.Trying to have minimal spend to get stash used up.

Used a ball of blue DK for a charity scarf with pompoms.Have started a matching hat with another ball.

I'm back. I lost my craft mojo and health declined. I think I've made 5 more things so new total 16/35

I spend a lot of time in bed at the moment and would like to do some hand stitching in bed. Things I'd usually sew on the machine I'd like to hand stitch. Maybe a Christmas stocking, but I just don't know if it's practical. Any advice or ideas please x

A stash buster thread, just up my street! I'm determined to not buy anything At All for a good few months....or even a year!
I made a practise applique flower picture out of a curtain that I'd had for years and the background was an old pair of bright blue trousers my daughter no longer wanted.
Now onto a much bigger picture using a canvas that's been knocking around for years, and also using up larger pieces of my stash. I will not look at fabric shops....I will not....
Would put a photo up but not sure how on my lappy.

I am embarrassed to say I had to buy wonder web to make a start on the 3 Kings wall hanging. Not started yet as we have been away. Thats the trouble with using stuff up ,you don't have everything you need to finish a project.

We have been away so not much crafting done.Didn't take any with me as I thought I should give my arthritis a rest. Didn't stop me from buying a frame for an embroidery I plan to make for my daughter for Christmas, but it was only 50p from a car boot sale, new in box.

pennib, that sounds interesting.I would love to see pics and post them too but I am very poor with technology. Anybody got an idiots guide?

magical,I made some handsewn Christmas stockings a couple of years ago.I prefer hand sewing. They were quite a simple pattern.Think it was from a magazine. They turned out nicely.I picked up some old blingy brooches from the charity shops to decorate them at the top.Which reminds me I have several brooches ready to make more stockings!

I am half way through knitting myself a cardigan but I am not feeling it.Don't know whether to finish it or undo it.
