Selling a car privately in NI 3rd Jul 19 at 5:29 PM

Just wondered if anyone had any tips for selling a car privately in NI?

Iíve posted the car on Auto Trader and Used Cars NI, would anyone recommend anywhere else? What about Facebook & Gumtree- would it be a good idea to put it on there too?

Iíve followed advice online about the best pics to take and what to mention in the description so Iím hoping itís a good advert- how long does it roughly take to sell a car privately?

You have it on the best sites. What I done was make an A4 poster with all the car details and your contact number on it put it on the inside of your car window, if possible make or buy a for sale sign and park the car in a layby wer people can see it, you have nothing to loose as its sitting for sale anyway, if someone is interested they can stop and have a look there and then. I have done it twice and twice the cars sold.

Be aware of this scam - don't let anyone viewing the car see the V5 New Keeper section of the V5 till you have cleared fends from them, and don't give anyone the Doc Ref.

I’ve posted the car on Auto Trader and Used Cars NI,
That should be more than enough.

The car will sell easily if its a popular sought after model and you have it priced right.

Asking too high a price or a dealers price can be a waste of time. The dealer takes trade ins, offer warranties and is generally safer to buy from than a unknown private seller i.e. You

Out of interest and to point you in the right direction what year, make & model is it??

'a car' can be a banger, a luxury saloon, SUV or sports car or anything in between

Up until recently I would have agreed with the above, however I've sold two cars over the last three months - one on at £15,995 and the other at £4,495 - and although both were listed on autotrader, used cars ni, gumtree and facebook, only Facebook yielded any results. In fact both were sold off facebook.

You have to deal with the "is this still available" messages a lot but both sold to people in their 50s and both were purely Facebook chat correspondence.

The £15,995 one sold for the asking price and the £4,495 one I got withong a couple of hundred on the price.

You need to keep deleting the ad weekly and re doing it to keep it up at the top of the listings but otherwise no hassle at all and free
Life has never given me lemons.

It has given me anger issues, anxiety, a love for alcohol and a serious dislike for stupid people, but not lemons.
