Ryanair luggage allowance confusion

Hi all,
I don't fly very often and am a little confused by what I am allowed to take on a flight I have booked for a couple of weeks time with Ryanair.
I've paid for no extras beyond the basic, but am not sure whether all I'm allowed to take is a small bag that fits under the seat in front and measures 35cm x 20 x 20, OR if I am also allowed to take a bag that goes in the hold and measures a maximum of 55cm x 40 x 20 and weighs 10kg. Or if there's another correct answer that I've completely missed!
The website is trying to push for me to pay for extra luggage allowance and I'm not sure I need it. I think they might be just angling for more cash. Can anyone who uses them regularly confirm how it works?
Thanks!

You can take the small back and the bigger one. The larger 10kg one may be tagged and taken off you at the aircraft door and put in hold if you haven't paid extra for priority. Or it may not. Depends on numbers. They only want around 90 in lockers. The plane seats 189 full.0

If you dont pay priorty they automatically put your larger bag in the hold now. Overhead lockers have been empty on most flights ive been on recently.0

last flight, my son put his hand over yellow tag(effectively hiding it ) and took it on board no hassle.0

On the last Ryanair flight I was on the guy in front of me peeled off the yellow sticker on his printed boarding pass & then a few minutes later took the yellow tag off his bag.
Seems as though this is a regular occurrence looking at all the yellow tags chucked on the ground.0 -
Thanks for the replies. It makes a lot more sense now!0

Does anyone know what size you can take if you pay extra for a larger bag in the hold? I think it's going to cost a lot to add another bag but I'm trying to figure out all the specifics to see if it's worth it!0
