I have acute tinnitus and concerned about the link to emfs.
I have I have acute tinnitus as well.
I must mention that the next time I visit the doctordoesn't need a box to tell him/her to turn down/off heating/tv
I wish my IHD did that.0 -
I am getting seriously wound up by this company and its bullying over smart meters.
I managed to opt out in January, and thought that was it, but got another letter this week.
Emailed, they are now claiming that even if I opt out again it is only for 3 months and then they can contact me again.
Surely this is in breach of GDPR and other regs?
Can someone please help - are other firms this bad?0 -
I am certainly not putting forward an argument to not get a smart meter. As I said it’s my personal view and I only answered a question. I do all I can to avoid wireless technology. Again, just my personal view.0

I signed up to the eon v24 tariff and now eon are telling me I agreed to have a smart meter installed. I checked my emails and terms and conditions and it doesn’t say I have to have one - just says they will contact me about installing one. Not the same surely!
So my question is - can they force me to get one? Has anyone got any advice? Their texts and calls are becoming a nuisance.
Many thanksTherealjcm wrote: »Thank you for your quick reply. May I ask which terms and conditions you are referring to do you have a link? I am quite sure I am doing something wrong here but could not find that in the documentation for the v24 tariff. Thanks again.
Hello Therealjcm and no, we can't force you to have smart meters. They're optional and you can turn down our offers to fit them.
Can I ask the full title of your tariff please? If it's Fix Online v24 (on sale from 24 to 30 July 19), this is an online only tariff and is different to the tariff Houbara links to. This is E.ON Energy Fixed 1 Year v24 (on sale from 19 June 18 to 11 September 18).
If it's Houbara's linked tariff, this has no conditions about smart meters. If it's the online tariff, you've agreed only to be contacted about smart meters. The relevant T&C on Fix Online v24 is section 11.1 which says the following.
With this tariff you agree to be contacted during the tariff term for the installation of a smart meter.
You can see the full T&Cs on our website.Therealjcm wrote: »I have acute tinnitus and concerned about the link to emfs. Just a personal view.
Smart meters have gone through rigorous safety testing and have exceeded every UK and EU safety standard. For instance, exposure to radio waves from smart meters is well within guideline limits and lower than from WiFi or mobile phones. Public Health England have confirmed they see no health risks from smart meters.
Hope this is of interest Therealjcm. Let me know if you need any more information as happy to help.

Hello suchgreatheights and sorry to hear you're hacked off with us.
What tariff are you on? With some of our tariffs, the T&Cs include a section where customers agree to be contacted about smart meters. As above in my reply to Therealjcm, this is section 11.1 in the T&Cs of the relevant tariffs.
When customers opt out of smart meters we ask them why they're against them as we've come across a wide range of reasons for declining these meters. Sometimes we're able to sort these objections. For instance, the new SMETS2 meters take away the objection of not being able to change supplier and stay smart. This triggers another contact to see if the new circumstances have led to a customer changing their mind about going smart.
If we're not able to sort your objections please speak with our smart teams (contact details are on our website) and ask for a long term opt-out. They'll talk to you about your objection, raise a complaint and transfer you to a specialist team who will agree the opt-out.
Thanks suchgreatheights.

Eon were the worst, rang me every other day about fitting smart meters. Blocked the number they would ring from another... changed supplier and they have never asked once!0

a) There's less risk of customers going into arrears when readings are sent on time automatically
b) At the same time educating some customers - especially those with a care free attitude towards energy usage - by giving them an energy monitor so that they can see for themselves how much energy they're using at any time.
Energy companies look at their FULL customer base, not just those with an "I'm All Right Jack" attitude....0 -

I'm on Fix Online v6. I've just received two texts telling me that "when you signed up to your energy tariff you agreed to have a smart meter fitted". This is the first I've heard of it. Can you show me where this agreement is please? I've read the T&Cs and can't see anything.
Thanks0 -

velgor the eon rep has already answered this on the other thread for me. I am on the same tariff.
You agree to be contacted only, you do not need to agree.
I am still getting the texts and emails which I just ignore.
Now the government has pushed back the date to 2024 that
Smart meters need to be fitted Eon may stop sending out these
misleading and simply incorrect texts and emails.0
