Yes I would book, but would buy a package and think I would phone them up first (before booking) to confirm I get a refund and what my losses will be if my flight doesnt leave. I would assume you don't get things like credit card charges, speedy boarding and things like that refunded, and would ask that too, also any admin fees they may charge in the event of non flight.

Holiday in UK? Leaving your booking to the last minute? Not having a holiday this year?

I've just booked a cheapie package holiday to Greece travellling end of next week. Chances are it'll be fine, if it's cancelled que sera sera! (don't know how to say that in Greek). The only snag will be wasting time off work , so am looking at possibilities for a contingency plan atm, just in case!

The way things are it's very difficult to second guess when and where disastrous occurrences, in the realms of acts of God and industrial action will befall us next! If it's a simple European package holiday, I'd say go ahead and book it, don't spend on holiday extras yet and take things as they come.

ETA for price-watchers . My package with Olympic was only 225, when I booked 3 weeks ago, however, Olympic have dropped the price for the same package to 210 this week.

ETA on 20th May......... the price is now down to 164 for mine and many similar, leaving Saturday with Olympic! So some bargains if you are able to hang fire!

I booked our summer holiday to the US. Ash cloud be damned.

Just annoyed I opted to purchase some of my currency before the election announcement (just in case the conversion tanked on news of a hung parliament), and in actual fact it's rallying now thanks to the Con/Lib alliance !! Oh well lol. Some you win, some you lose.

samanthag let us know how you get on booking and what the company say.

BTW I heard a Thomson ad on the radio this morning which basically said: 'We wont leave you stranded etc etc' I thought right - good. Then the bit at the end says something about 'exclusions apply' So wonder what that means!!

I was in Thomsons at the weekend as we're hoping (still not booked) to go to Turkey around the 24th May.

Their advice was to book in the shop (although I suppose they would say that!) as it means you can contact them and not the general and busy customer services number.

Apparently the upgraded all stranded passengers and got them back as and when they could.

Just come back from Calis beach - staying at a friend's appt., we had flights cancelled in April due to ash cloud so rebooked as quickly as possible and just flew back on Fri (and in the nick of time!) It's fab, and weather was brilliant, everyone's so friendly, highly recommend it as a holiday destination for with or without kids. Have a great time!

There are thousands of self-catering family cottages available in the UK and some still have really good summer 2010 availability. I've just refurbished my pet "Cheyne Cottage" project but am having real difficulty finding out how to market it this late and so close to when I need bookings - any MSE advice gratefully received.
To summarise - don't reject UK holidays!
    Happy Holidays!
