I think you both know that the "unfamiliar with the route" bit is a lazy cop-out, don't you?
The speed awareness course will remind her of something she shouldn't have forgotten quite so soon after her driving lessons - how to tell instantly what the speed limit is...
Streetlights, no repeaters? 30.
No streetlights, no repeaters? NSL
NSL and one carriageway? 60
NSL and two carriageways? 70
Otherwise... repeaters.
If she is not offered a course for one of them, just a brace of FPNs, then - with a newly-minted licence - she's walking until she passes her test again.I find people get carrigeways confused with lanes. I have both a single lane dual carriageway and a two lane single carrigeways near me.
I know they are somewhat rare. But they do exist. On the dual carriageway people go slow and on the single they speed.I think....0 -
How do you know when a dual carriageway is classed as a single?
Quite easily, it's not a dual carriageway.
Single no centre divider.
Dual has a centre divider.
Oh, you think it's got something to do with the number of lanes in each direction? Don't worry by the time you pass your test all will become clear.0 -

?. I mean as in a dual carriageway with only one lane on each side. So speed limit for most is 70.
So annoying when people sit at 60 as you cannot overtake as there is no lane to overtake in (Not that annoying though! Just slightly).0 -

We're looking for some advice, my partner is a relatively new driver (under 1 year) and started a new job recently. She was unfamiliar with the route to work and got caught speeding 36 in a 30 twice on 2 different days all within the space of a week. She thought the road was a 40. The letters arrived within 2 days of each other and she's pretty distraught about it all and what may happen.
Due to her being a new driver would she be offered an awareness course or would they simply hand her 6 points and revoke her license?
Her car is on my insurance policy and she is marked as an additional driver to the car. will I need to inform my insurance company? If so would this effect my insurance as It was't my car and I wasn't driving?
Not looking for any sympathy here, It was her fault and she's aware of that just looking for advice as to whats likely to happen.
according to this the threshold for a sac is 35 in a 30 zone

As she was doing 36 she will not get offered one.0 -

Given the police get money from speed awareness courses and nothing from a FPN, let's see what happens.0 -
And my point is people sit at 60!
And on the single carriageway nearest me. It has two lanes on one side and people go 70. The police do love the spot though.
And what's your point?
Sunny afternoon mid week if I'm not in a hurry I may sit at 55.
I'm fully aware of the speed limit0
