  • No bank account activity today but not a nsd either. £6 cash spent on bus fares into town for me and hubby. Then it was out uni friends Christmas gathering. I'd paid the deposit for all of is last month and hubby has paid the taxi fares for 4/5ths of us on the App. So people gave us money which I then used to pay the balance of our meal.

Hoping for a no spend weekend, but it probably won't be possible.

  • Today has been a low spend rather than no spend day. I didn't buy enough fondant icing sugar to cover the Christmas cake, so had to go out and purchase a pack of ready made stuff to add to it. I also bought more milk. If it snows like crazy tonight, the plan is to go out sledging tomorrow afternoon and I want to have plenty of milk to be able to. One in and drink big cups of hot chocolate and eat homemade shortbread biscuits. (I made the biscuits today)
Today I've also fake marzipaned & iced the Christmas cake - I have a nut allergy so can't go anywhere near marzipan, but found a recipe in line for a cake marzipan made of semolina flour, icing sugar & butter. Seemed to have worked ok.

Today has also consisted of much tidying, but the house still looking a mess and laundry. That never ending cycle of despair.

So, despite not being a nsd I haven't touched the bank accounts so no changes at all to the info below.

    How dull?

  • We are well and truly in the 'middle of the month financial desert'. Despite the fact we've only actually had 1 full week in December.
So far I'm winning on the grocery, spending money & 'stuff I'll forget' budgets.
Household goods & restaurants have been demolished, so potentially a bit of juggling to do as we move forward.

Today has been a nsd (Sunday's usually are) Christmas decs are up, and I'm ploughing on with the Christmas knitting. I'm wondering how I'm actually going to get everything I need to done this week as I've got no 'days' left. I need to write a list and I'm sure it won't be as bad as I think it is.
Hubby is home for a couple of days, Tuesday should be interesting as I'm working from home and he's around all day too - shoe most definitely on the other foot to normal.

So, just a minor alteration to my targets. Tomorrow is unlikely to be a nsd as I don't think I'll have any other time this week to go shopping.

  • As predicted today was not a no spend day, but it wasn't a hugely spendy day either.
£8 to a friend to buy some trousers for Pickle that her little one has outgrown.
About £20 on the food shop for the week
Household good has taken another hit due to Nappies, but we're still on track.
A few Christmas bits bought and about £80 left in the Christmas pot.
I'll Tilly tidy tomorrow when I get on the computer. (Going to mum and dads this weekend, where I left my iPad so can do my Tilly tidies on there from Friday)

Hopefully a run of nsds coming up.

  • So, last night I managed to get the Amazon order and an order for some additional shelves for my oven in before midnight. (My new, lovely, amazing, multi oven has a tall, thin oven, perfect for bun trays, it only came with 3 shelves, but 5 would fit easily, so I've ordered the extra 2. £30 including a roasting tray (that will fit in the oven) and a bottle of oven cleaner supposedly worth £15 - I don't suppose anybody ever pays that amount for it though.

All of this means that today has been a nsd as intended. So updates on my targets are due to the Tilly
Tidied done today from yesterday's spending

I've got my first half day of supply teaching tomorrow and I'm terrified, but I'm going to put my big girl pans on and just do it. It's only half a day, even I can manage that...

  • Yay! Another nsd today. Can I make it three in a row by having another one tomorrow? I really hope so. (I'm getting just a little bit competitive with myself about these nsds.
I did half a day's supply teaching today, most definitely a case of 'keep them alive for a few hours, it's the crazy Christmas period' I survived, timesheet has been submitted, money should be in my bank the end of next week.

I've also sold an item on 'the boot sale app' so, if that's collected, it will be £3 in the mop pot - not a lot but 'every little helps' I'm keeping the bits I've got for sale up for sale at the moment, but I might find a friend to do a 'live' car boot with me next spring. I've definitely got enough stuff to do it with and, what doesn't go can be dropped at the charity shop on the way home.
Hubby actually mentioned the word 'moving' last night (when I complained about the damp in the front wall) so, I definitely want to crack on with the decluterr as that will make moving easier and increase the equity a tiny amount.
We should get £100k for our house - I wouldn't take less than £95k for it. It does need a new kitchen & there is a bit of damp, but it's all easily fixed - I think we should get the damp done though.
Mortgage is currently standing at just over £35k, so we are looking at equity of about £65k.
I think we need to have about £10k in cash as a 'moving pot' for fees and expenses, so need to check with hubby how the savings are looking for that.
We have quite a specific wish list for our next home, due to hubby's self employment - no flight cases in any room I'm going to use, so we are going to be quite limited.
We need to write our 'non-negotiables' and our 'it would be nice' lists.

Tonight involves packing to go away at the weekend and prepping for my work visit tomorrow (overtime plus expenses) and attempting to keep warm.

    Have a lovely evening everyone.

    Wish

  • woooohoooo I've done it, 3 nsds in a row. I nearly caved in the service station today, it was soooo cold I felt I deserved a hot drink, but I stayed strong.
Tomorrow is 'travelling to the parent's day' if I can scrap together enough drinks & snacks for the journey I could very well have a nsd tomorrow too.

Saturday will not be as I'm booked in for the annual hair chop.

So, only a minor update to the targets below and one step closer to retirement.

  • not a no spend day today as I thought the bespoke Christmas cards I was collecting were prepaid by hubby, turns out the weren't.... so I made the situation worse by stopping for fast food drive through on the trip to mum and dads that should take two hours, but today took nearly 4.

The sold item was collected, paid for and the money has been added
To the mop pot along with today's Tilly tidy.

Hair chop tomorrow for both me and hubby, will be about £40 total. Then santa special train with the family incthe afternoon. Pickle is going to love it (apart from Father Christmas, meeting him at playgroup on Thursday did not go well.

  • As predicted today was quite spendy. £44 (plus tips) on hair cuts for both of us. So completely non-required supermarket treats for lunch and some teething things for Pickle (calpol & numbing spray) this does mean I've got some Tilly tidying I can do. But the spending money pot is pretty much empty. I keep thinking I'm not going to hit even mop target 1 this month, but do need to remember my work expenses will be paid next week. I want to keep some back to build up an expenses slush fund, but the rest can go in the mop or rainy day pot. I've got another £50 worth of expenses due at the end of January and February's will be enormous as I'm doing a lot of travelling for work in January.

    Tomorrow should be a nsd....

Hiya Wish, how was your supply day? Good I hope.
I too am not confident of hitting op targets this month - too much socialising and pressie buying. Worth it though:D
