Is it time to close this forum? 27th Apr 16 at 6:15 AM
Given that it has been a while for us in the northern hemisphere to have (thankfully) been impacted by volcano travel disruption - is this forum still useful and relevant?

Recent posts and threads seem to be off-topic. The rest of the forum are old posts.

Is it time to close this forum down?

Alternatively, do we have a "Travel Disruption" forum instead (I dislike using "Chaos") for people to post about planned industrial action, airport closures, transportation issues etc.?

    What do others think?

Not sure I follow you marleyboy.

OP of this thread but nothing to do with setting it up in the first place.

Thanks for the views so far. I'll see what responses come in over the next few days and if the general feeling is to close it down I will contact the MSE team to see if that's possible.

I have made a polite request for both this forum and the Crown Currency one to be closed via the forum moderator. Let's see what happens.

I emailed the forum moderator on 3/5 and again 10/5.

Had a response from MSE Andrea yesterday (25/5) who thanked me for the message and said that MSE are currently reviewing all forums and would take on board my comments.

(I also suggested the Crown Currency thread was closed down as well)

Yes, close it now, but maybe another should be opened by Admin called "Your weather related travel disasters" or something like that.

No because there are reports the volcano is about to erupt again, causing more travel chaos

Just an update to this thread should anyone be interested -

I emailed MSE 14/8/17 to ask for an update to my initial suggestion about tidying up the Overseas Travel & Planning Forums by closing this sub-forum (and the Crown Currency one) and creating a new sub forum for general travel disruption where relevant and up to date information can be posted for travel disruption (strikes, weather issues etc).

I had a nice reply from "MSE Andrea", but it appears no action from MSE going forward.

    Hi Westin!

Well, we were looking into a forum board update at the time we spoke but we've had a lot of changes on the team in the last year and we've had to prioritise other areas of the forum so it's not happened yet. I'd love to say we'll be doing it some time soon but I'm afraid it's unlikely for a while.

By all means if you can help by directing people to forum threads and/or content on our main site where they're more likely to get their questions answered that would be a huge help!

    Thank you!
    A shame I think.

It's a pathetic excuse for not doing the sensible thing. You should spend your time seeking to get people to direct their questions to a better forum because they can't manage to close it!!!! Even locking it until they get around to it would be an improvement.
