Hi Honeysuckle, yes there's a few mother & baby/toddler groups not too far from me. I was taking DS fairly regularly to one but got out of the habit as couldn't make every week due to my shifts etc.

Will need to get back to it once we're in some sort of routine, it's good for DS to socialise apart from anything else. I'm fairly anti-social though so hate speaking to people I don't know. :rotfl: DS is a good ice breaker though as he loves people and is very sociable, don't know where he gets it from. :rotfl:

Good idea about story reading, DS loves his books and I get brought them regularly throughout the day when we're at home. :) Have caught him sitting by himself in my rocking chair "reading" books as well recently. :D

There’s only 2 years between my two. It was hard at first until we got into a routine. It took forever just to get out of the door in the morning, it was often lunchtime before we emerged. At first DS was jealous of the baby and I had to watch him with her, he scratched her face quite badly and kept telling her that’s my mummy not yours.

Not long now, try and put your feet up a bit before the baby arrives xx

Hi SA, yes I remember it was hard enough getting myself and DS out the door at first, so will be a new challenge with DS plus a baby.

I'm not sure how DS will react but I think he will be jealous, I guess it's only natural. He already likes to push in between me and his daddy if DH dares to cuddle me in front of him.:rotfl: Will have to see how it goes.

I think I'll have to slow down and rest but still getting frustrated with things I want to do but don't have the energy for. Some days are better than others energy wise though so will try to take it easier.

Had a fairly lazy day yesterday, didn't do much around the house. :o

Got £20 vouchers from S&S so ordered a few things from am@zon - got two small barbie dolls towards my younger nieces' Christmas - one boy one and a mermaid one, no doubt should have bought two the same as they'll fight over one of them. :rotfl:

Also ordered a rubber broom for the kitchen as thought it would be better for all the cat hair and I can wash the brush rather than it get all disgusting with cat hair I can't get out. Then added a plastic microwave mug so that DH can take soup to work during the winter. All of that only cost £6 due to the vouchers. :T

Had also ordered some plastic boxes and mesh laundry bags for reusable wipes. Thought I would try using them at home rather than disposable wipes as DS gets a bit sore from them sometimes and also can use them with the new baby. Had a £5 voucher from SB towards the boxes and bags, so that came to around £8.

Also waiting on snowdrop & tulip bulbs and pansies and violas to arrive for the garden. DH will need to help me get them planted once they arrive.

My friend brought up some baby clothes & nappies she hadn't used with her last baby and also her TENS machine to borrow. I used the TENS machine during the my labour with DS until I went into the birthing pool and found it really helped.

Really need to sort out the baby stuff in the spare room but also need to get DS out into the garden for a run around and make some leek and potato soup.

Have been doing a couple of surveys and also got a £50 cheque through from one of my panels. :)

Did the shopping online this morning for delivery tomorrow night, hopefully have remembered everything.

That's me finished up at work now, got my annual leave days next week and then maternity leave starts officially on 30th Sept. :j Just need to go into work for an hour or so next week to swap my work phone out as they are issuing new ones, if I don't go in I won't get mine.

Glad I got the days off next week as I was very tired today after working 2 shifts. Part of me will miss work but I know I'll settle into a new routine at home soon enough. Will ease myself back into work with my KIT days next July.

Forgot to mention that DH finally booked a check up with the dentist for us all for next week :T

Made leek and potato soup the other day but forgot the recipe doesn't make much. I had a bowl and then DH finished the rest! Need to remember to use double quantities for that recipe with my greedy DH around.

Got around half of the daffodil bulbs planted the other day with DH's help. Going to get him to plant the rest in the front garden, hoping the rest of the bulbs and flowers arrive tomorrow/Monday so that we can get them all planted up. Bought some small heather plants in Mr M's and will get them potted up for a bit of colour through the winter. Need to remind DH to buy some compost.

Got some quidc0 money through so have paid another £2 into my EF. Will add some more when the £50 survey cheque clears. DH also has some quidc0 money so have asked him to pay it off his NW loan and I can hopefully give him at least £30 survey money towards it as well.

Payday tomorrow so we'll be paying the CC's off in full as we do every month (used for cashback) and moving any money from the allocated saving accounts if it's been used i.e. birthday/Christmas spending, house stuff etc.

DH has picked up an O/T shift on Saturday so that's a good amount of extra money in next month's pay. My pay wasn't great this month as I didn't do any Sundays (classed as O/T) or any extra shifts.

Have booked my flu jag but first appointment is on 5th October and I'm due to have the baby around then. Will keep the appointment for now as may well go overdue anyway.

  • Sounds brilliantly organised to have got the daffodils in...I keep looking at a bag of grape hyacinths that I must get in asap.

Hope you have chance to rest over the next few days...not long to go!

Must be a funny feeling, last few weeks with DS as the only child, a new baby, and no work for quite a while. I hope all goes smoothly for you. :)

Hi all, thanks for popping in. Beanie, I'm hoping to try & pace myself better as only have a few places I "have" to be now I'm finished up at work - a few appointments & picking my new work phone up over the next week.

Honeylou, we're trying to be more organised with the bulbs this year, we're usually last minute.com. :o I know if I don't [STRIKE]nag[/STRIKE] encourage DH to help me out with it now, it won't get done!

My plug plants arrived this morning - pansies and violas - so will need to get them planted out along with the heather later. Fingers crossed the tulip & snowdrop bulbs arrive on Monday and we can get those done then. DH is going out to get some compost today.

Yes Velvet, a bit of a funny in-between/waiting period now.

DH has stuck a washing on so will hang that out when it's finished, it's lovely and sunny now after a foggy start this morning.

Have moved money about, paid £20 survey money into my EF, taking it to £64. :T Will be able to give DH £30 towards an OP on his bigger loan too. :)

Got most of the plug plants potted up yesterday along with the heather plants and finished the rest today. :T My tulip & snowdrop bulbs also arrived yesterday so DH planted half of those in pots in the back garden. We only need to plant the rest of the bulbs (daffodil, tulip & snowdrops) in the front garden and we're pretty much sorted, just need to do some garden tidying and clear out the greenhouse. :j

DS keeps putting pebbles in his mouth when we're out in the garden. I thought he had swallowed one today as he ran away from me when I asked what was in his mouth and wouldn't open it for me. He nearly choked because he was trying to get away & shaking his head at the same time. I got a fright but he did spit a pebble out so I don't think he did swallow anything. Nothing we do seems to stop him putting them in his mouth, I think he likes the smooth texture. :(

DH stripped the bed sheets, washed them and hung them out and then put a washing of DS's stuff on before he went to work. I just had to take the sheets off the line and fold them and hang out then get DS's stuff back in. :) All dried well as sunny with a good breeze today. :T

DH will be home early enough to help me put clean sheets on our bed so it's good I don't have to do it myself.

Ordered a toddler bed, mattress and laundry basket today for what will be DS's new room (once we get the stuff already in there packed up and the garage conversion on the go). The new mattress will go into the existing cotbed for the new baby ready for them to move into at 6 months and DS can take his existing mattress for his toddler bed.

The bed & mattress had 20% off so I got them both for £91 which is pretty reasonable. We should be able to store them in the spare room until needed, the bed is flat pack anyway.

I also made a list of furniture we'll need for DS's room; chest of drawers, bookcase, chair (for the sake of my back if/when I need to get up at night with him), light shade, roller blind & blackout blind. There isn't a built in wardrobe in that room but anything that needs hung up can go into the wardrobe in the baby's room (DS's existing room).

We should be able to get most of the stuff needed using the money we put by every month for kid expenses plus the extra £300 we should be getting from DH's work health plan for the new baby. We can spread the cost out as well since we don't need the room ready straight away.
