Water Bill in commercial/residential property

Hi

My dad has a small shop which is attached to his house. The shop has no water supply etc and he uses the house for water needs etc. There is an internal door between the shop and house.

I have been looking at his bill, which comes for Yorkshire Business Services for both the shop and house together for a huge £700. It is an RV based bill.

The guy who lives next door has a bill for £206.

YW Business says they cant do anything to split it as there is no supply in the shop and if I wanted to split it I would need a water supply fit in the shop and then split the two

Is this correct? Any other alternatives?

Really? The shop is the size of a moderate living room !!

My thinking was if I got a meter and supply in the shop, which would have an initial cost but the cost of using water would be virtually nil, I could separate the house out and be charged roughly same as next door, saving me circa £500 per annum

Contact, initially by phone, the Consumer Council for Water and they will advise and probably take up the case on your behalf.

    They are normally very helpful.

House £500 - £1000 on RV depending upon area .
My current RV for 3 bed semi is circa £750 pa .

If the shop water is split off does that mean it will be on a business rate/ tariff .

My comment earlier was that the next door neighbour - same size terraced house has a RV bill of c£200.
