Tesco 'Money off' vouchers

We have used these vouchers for years - £4 off £40 shopping, or £10 off £70 worth of shopping.
Today we did a big shop for the weekend and bought a bottle of gin and two bottles of wine. The checkout lady said we couldn't use the voucher as the total cost, less the gin and wine, fell below £70.
I don't know when the rules changed as we have happily bought 6 bottles of wine with 25% off and used the money-off voucher within the last month or so, and were not challenged at the till. So be careful if you are voucher user.

I don't know when it started but it's similar in Sainsburys. I've read previous posts where some checkouts in Tesco accept them but others don't.:(
Sainsburys seem to accept buying wine but not spirits with vouchers. It's very confusing.
All details are on the back of the vouchers but you'll need a magnifying glass to read them.0
