Affodable photography?

I want to be able to continue to use my old film camera: it gives me rather better pictures than I have been able to get from any kind of digital camera. So can anyone suggest an affordable way to do this? Buying a film locally costs me eight pounds, then having it developed another eight. Sixteen pounds for 24 pictures is a lot for me: surely there is some more economical way to do this.
