Wish i'd read all the comments about Mansion before ordering a 32" TV. I have had all the same bulls##t as everyone else and have been chasing them for a delivery for the last 4 weeks. Yes, they phoned me for the security number of my card giving the excuse that the number hadn't gone through on their site! Well, i was building a fence at the time and didn't have time to think about it so just gave it to them. I now feel a right tit for allowing myself to be conned by them as i too have tried to track them down on the Belmont ind. est. and can find no listing for them. Got to phone my credit card company tomorrow for the retail disputes dept. to hopefully sort out and pray they will refund me the £177 i have lost. Don't touch these crooks with a bargepole, steer well clear.

Quite possibly, but while we wait for said "customer" to turn up, a couple more things that ring bells (in case you need any more):

None of the trade directories for Belmont Industrial Estate have an entry for Mansion TV in them.

Also, for a company that claims that it has only just been set up, the following looks a bit odd in their Privacy Policy:

"If we decide to change our privacy policy, we will post those changes on this page. Policy changes will apply only to information collected after the date of the change. This policy was last modified on August 6, 2003."

Until you Google for the phrase in bold, and find that numerous apparently scam-based sites have copied these words from somewhere in a very poor effort to make their website look legitimate.

I did the exact same thing and found othe sites with this, presumably this is a cut n' paste from some legitimate site from some time ago.

Shame that people still fall for these scams, if a product is cheaper from a company you've never heard of and Google shows no results then AVOID.

Presumably these scammers thought they'd give you a hint with their name, which clearly indicates that your scammed money will help them acquire a Mansion :D

Contacted my credit card company to report Mansion TV and surprisingly, an email arrived from Mansion TV this afternoon stating that the container with their delivery was held up as the stock didn't have the CE verification on them, which the manufacturer was supposed to do so they had to bring another company in to verify the goods were safe for the UK and i should receive my TV either Wed or Thurs this week. IF, the TV turns up i expect it to be crap having been told this but i will wait and see and will post what happens (or what doesn't!).

My friend also received the same message from Mansion TV. This was a month ago now. Surprise, surprise, still no TVs. A strange coincidence I'm sure, but he received this message immediately after contacting his CC company also.

I too, like a schmuck I attempted to buy before I searched the net, I was met with the same replies, 'None in stock, now they've arrived they need to be certified' this was after the money was taken from my account

After a number of emails and phone calls with no joy, I copied the text I received from an email, off the online fraud reporting site into a further email to Mansion TV, 24hrs later the money has now been returned to my account

Interestingly the website domain is registered in Liverpool in Exchange Street East and not in the North East, like the website states.

I will learn from this, I hope others do as well

I too, like the people above have had the same problems with Mansion TV, no stock, held at customs, no CE markings, etc. I did try and Google them for info before I bought but found nothing. I still placed my order for a 32 inch thinking that I was taking a chance on the TV rather than the company, that was a little over a month ago and still no TV. As far as I'm aware not every item has to be tested for CE approval as this would be impractical for high volume items like TV's. Although I haven't researched this fully I'm pretty sure that batch testing would be sufficient for CE approval on a product as they would be built within certain tolerances. I used to own an electronics manufacturing company and I've never seen a company with a specific department for CE approvals but I do know of companies sending a new product off for CE certification before being allowed to market. Maybe others would like to research this for themselves, my opinion is that this is an excuse for some other "problem". I have called them again today and have been told that my TV is being dispatched today and that I'll have it by the end of the day tomorrow and will receive an email from Parcelforce later today with tracking information. I'll update with further developments. I paid for the TV by Visa debit card and do know that you can request your bank to initiate a Chargeback for goods not received etc, whereby Visa debit the suppliers bank account in your favour, but apparently not many consumers or indeed banks know about this so be prepared to argue your case if need be. Hopefully, this will give those people that have paid by debit card rather than credit card some peace of mind. Again, you may want to research this for yourself.

They won't have to CE test every TV just each TV of a certain model, however it sounds like a load of cobblers and if they're selling items that aren't yet certified then I'd run for the hills.... anyway I suspect it's irrelevent and it's no doubt another excuse and delaying tactics. I would imagine CE approval would be done BEFORE you go selling something, what if it doesn't meet approval?

At the very best I suspect you'll end up with some very cheap and questionable Chinese LCD TV, you really might have just gone to Tesco and got a Tecnika.

People need to learn the basics with shopping online, use a credit card always for items over £100, if it's a new company with no Google results and feedback then be highly suspicious, do a whois lookup and if it looks to good to be true then it is.

    Good luck to you all.

Thinking about this some more, MansionTV website previously listed Company No. 07183712 which when entered into Companies House showed as:

    RED SAUNAS LTD
    10A BELMONT INDUSTRIAL ESTATE
    BELMONT
    BELMONT
    DURHAM
    DH1 1TN
    Company No. 07183712

This company shows as dormant and I suspect has ceased trading, so has MansionTV used their company address and details to help look more legit?

The whole thing stinks completey, if they are a genuine company then they're clearly incompetent and doing it all wrong and I'd avoid...but as I suspect the website and 'company' will disappear in the near future never having delivered a single product then we'll know for sure.

Someone did post here claiming to be from Mansion but that got removed for (presumably) not signing up as a business.... but MansionTV could have joined MSE correctly to answer all questions but they haven't.

Oh and by the way, their premises is available to rent apparently

    Did I mention
    AVOID?

    Hi everyone,
I also had a similar experience with the Mansion people. I ordered a TV just after Christmas and was given a delivery date of Jan 10th. Immediately after I placed the order they phoned me to ask for the 3 digit no on the credit card... deja vu... I had an email to say the order had been dispatched:

Your goods have now been dispatched from us and will arrive with you between the 9th and the 13th January

    Andrew.

Despite this email the quoted date passed with no delivery in sight, I emailed them and they told me some story about having a problem with the panel and they offered a refund and a free wall bracket + an HDMI cable for compensation. To my surprise, I received a wall bracket from Red Saunas, but not the cable which they promised to send as soon as those would be back in stock. I never heard from them again, but I did get the refund under some obscure company name.

I have emailed them a couple of times since to ask them about their TVs being back in stock, but no answer. I am surprised nobody has taken action against them yet to have their website removed... Good luck to anyone who hasn't had their money back yet...

Update on my previous post. Although I was told that my TV was dispatched yesterday I have now received an email from Mansion TV stating that my item has been sent today and will be with me on Monday. I telephoned them and asked for my tracking number which they gave me and checked it out with Parcelforce after explaining the situation to them. They have told me that the tracking number is genuine and it is due for collection today with delivery on Monday and that it is being picked up from Unit 10A Belmont Industrial Estate, Durham under the company name of Red Saunas. They are also calling me this evening to confirm that the goods have been picked up...great service from Parcelforce. I'll update on Monday to confirm what, if anything, turns up.

Just a polite note to Spannerzone. It is very common for goods coming from the far East or outside the EU to be held at Customs for not having CE markings or the necessary paperwork or Certificates of Conformity. Having CE approval is no guarantee of quality and is no reason to "run for the hills". If you went over to Japan and bought yourself a top of the range TV it would not have CE approval as it only applies to goods sold in the EU. It is extremely common for UK manufacturers to sub-contract electronic manufacturing to China for many types of specialist high value industrial equipment and was my main competition in my own business. I have no concerns about buying goods manufactured in China. Not everybody wants an expensive top of the range TV or indeed have or want credit cards. I personally don't have a credit card, if I can't afford it I can't have it. I have no doubt that all of the people on this website will feel pretty silly if we have been ripped off but surely that's the point of this forum so as something can be done about it...there's nothing worse for a business than bad press...and hindsight is a great thing. Buying from a start up business is always a risk no matter what their intentions...good or bad. Being lectured about how stupid we have all been doesn't really help...nor does unnecessarily panicking people with unconfirmed speculation without having the facts at hand. If Unit 10A is still showing as being available for rent then maybe that's the fault of the Estate Agent...we all know you can't trust them! There must be someone in Unit 10A as Parcelforce have confirmed the pick up address to me. I shall soon find out and update on Monday as to what if anything turns up and my opinion as to quality of the goods as a qualified electronics engineer with over 35 years of electronic manufacturing experience.
