NPower Price Increases

Help!!!
I have just received a renewal notice from NPower stating that as from 1/1/06 my kWh rate has gone up by 39% (expected) and my standing charge has by 519% (totally not expected and feeling mugged). My contract states I need to give 90 days notice prior to the renewal date should I wish to terminate however in this instance my renewal letter came one week after my termination cut off date!!!! NPower customer services response to my enquiry was well you should have terminated before your renewal notice.
Any advice would be really helpful

Why do you have to give 90 days notice? I'm with npower and am unhappy that they have tried to increase my direct debits by 55% though I am in credit.
I have to give 28 days notice.
