  • Thanks PP, feeling much better today.

A nsd woop woop de woop, and my expenses paid, and ynabd!!!!

So, here I am with some good news.

I completed (cheated!) the 1p a day challenge
    £667.95 broken down as:

£7.95 into the mop pot for October
    £60 to treat myself
£200 into the 13 step plan
£400 into the mortgage (1 complete brick on the countdown house)

I'm not doing it again, it diverts too much from my actual savings goals.

I can't sort my October targets out just yet as I don't know what the mortgage interest is going to be, but Pcotber should be a good month for income (quite a lot of overtime and expenses due) but we have booked a holiday, just a cottage on the west coast of Cumbria, but I'm sooo looking forward to some family time and days out with the Pickle. It will cost a little bit, but I don't really care.

Happy end of the month everyone.

    Wish

  • Evening all,

Into October and I've started the month with an nsd.
Mortgage interest hasn't been finalised yet, so targets need tying down totally (best guess so far below, but will be revised)

Mum and dad here, packing done for work trip and alarm set for 5am, so, on that note. Night all.

  • 2 NSDs in a row woo hoo (helped by the fact all was on expenses yesterday as I was working)
Mortgage interest landed late yesterday. Under £60, so daily interest is under £2 a day. This is the last 'big' interest milestone achievable at the moment as I only have £300 overpayment allowance left until Jan 1st. I'm hoping to get that boxes off this month, then I'll focus on the other categories in my mortgage neutrality plan between now and December. Currently mortgage neutrality (actual debt vs money in 13 plan savings) is around £24k I'm pleased with this and have an excellent month of overtime and expenses due. Ooh I like competition. Actually working in the Hq office today, not sure I'll be as productive as I would be at home, too many interruptions. We'll see.

Targets updated following mortgage interest added.

  • Not a nsd, but things arein check, which is great. I'm now home for a few days whilst we pack and sort the house out. My parents leave tomorrow so I can get the house straight. Don't need a huge amount of food this weekend (I hope) then we're away with family for near enough 2 weeks then on holiday. Need to speak to hubby about what we are going to do about food while we're away (take with us or an on line shop)

In other news, Work have confirmed an increase in my hours for next year. It could be around £200 a month increase in my take home pay - not to be sneezed at especially as our child care bill will go down this time next year too.

Lazy day tomorrow. Everyone is tired.
    Sleep well.

  • Another nsd today, feel like I'm doing ok so far this month with those.

Error on my calculations somewhere along the line means I'm sailing close to my 10% overpayment allowance for this year, so I've called it a day on my mfw 2018 challenge.
I've already paid over the £59.25 which is the interest added this month. But, from now on my focus is the 13 step plan, but I will be Tilly tidying to the mop pot on ynab for the start of 2019. I'll need to recalculate what the 13 step plan target needs to be to take this into account.

Very tired tonight, so some sorting out and then bed for me. Hubby goes away for work again tomorrow.

  • Another nsd today. Doing REALLY well this month (mostly thanks to the generosity of my parents) today Pickle and I went to an exhibition with my parents, dad is the chair of one of the societies represented. Far too geeky for me, but Pickle loved it (boys and their toys!)
Anyway, I did take £50 out of the bank this morning in case I saw something for Pickle for Christmas, but the cash is still all in my purse. I'll use it for food spends over the coming week. This evening I need to 'fly' round the house. Sooo much to do. I also need to do my prep for the church service tomorrow. Then hopefully not too late into bed tonight.
I spent some time this morning adjusting my targets for this month due to reaching my 10% mortgage overpayment allowance.
See below! Hoping for another nsd tomorrow too.

  • Evening all,
I can't believe I'm actually going to say this but... another nsd that's 5 already this month. I'm almost tempted to transfer the £25 needed to colour in another brick of the countdown house (off set rather than actual pay off) but, we head off to London on Wednesday and we have a week's holiday this month, so I'm just holding off for a bit.
Lovely afternoon with Pickle and some friends. Pickle managed to walk all the way around the lake. The previous time we walked this route he only Managed about three quarters of it before needing slingy cuddles.
I'm working tomorrow, Pickle at the Childminder's, but this is a swap from when she took the day off for her daughter's gcse results day. And my work day is overtime, so it's all pennies in the bank (and will be paid at the end of the month)
This evening I need to reset the house for the week ahead and relax ready for tomorrow.

    Have a good evening everyone.

    Hi Wish
I've heard a few people talk about colouring in MF bricks - how does this work? It sounds like a really good motivational tool

    Hi Hazel,

I'm sure many people do much more creative things, but I've simply got a 10x10 grid. When I hit £36k left to repay I divided the outstanding. Amount by 100 making each brick 'worth' £400. As I pay off £400 of the mortgage I colour in a brick (starting at the end) as I save £400 in the offset pot I put a cross through a brick (I started at 0 for these) I'm around 40% complete now, 25% reduces mortgage balance and the rest held in cash in my accounts.

    Hope this helps.
