Oh lawks, I think I'll give it a miss, then. Lupus has done some weird and extremely unpleasant things to my digestive system, so I have to be quite careful these days. So anything that's supposed to "do something" to that area of the anatomy is something I'll treat with extreme caution.
Kefir can have a virtually instant effect on someone that normally eats junk food I do know:rotfl:. I don't know whether it would do so on someone that normally eats more healthily and suspect they would "adapt" to it much more readily.
So far today - groundhog day at lunchtime = the rest of the sorta ratatouille with cheese sauce/topped by mashed potato. Nowt special. Felt so virtuous about having a "groundhog day" that I'm now noshing a little snack of medjool dates filled with almond butter. Not often I fancy something a little sweet - and its nom. Done them filled with tahini before now - and thats nom too. A glass of rice milk to wash them down I think.0 -
"They" who are righteous tell us that fruit is cheaper than junk food.
I challenge them to replace my 24p bourbons
Yesterday, in addition to dismissing grapes at £1.85 I also eyed up apples (I was thinking about baked apples with mixed fruit in the middle/similar. A single apple's about 64p (A1d1) and even the L1d1 offer of the week brings them in at 64p for 4 (from memory).... I only wanted one.
Bourbons at 24p would trump both those....
Medium bananas come in at about 11-12p, but you get fed up of those (I've still got one in the kitchen).
Who doesn't like a little pawful of 2-3 biscuits
17 biscuits in the bourbons (yes, I did count as I was intrigued as to how many to grab when I opened them, so thought I'd start by understanding the pack size).0 -
I keep thinking about growing some veg. I did some research into what can grow in tubs but then remembered I'm scared of slugs and snails so decided it wasn't a good idea.
I saw the specialist today and he put my mind at rest regarding some symptoms and abnormal test results I've been having. Mainly the liver function tests which he says are abnormal because there's a problem with the new machine they've used.
Something seems to have 'clicked' and I'm feeling a lot brighter now.
Breakfast was an avocado and two chocolate bars. Lunch was a toasted teacake and latte.
Tea will be fishcakes and a pile of veg.
Lol I seem to wage a permanent war against slugs and snails here and carry a salt pot in my pocket when working on the garden, that fixes em.
So pleased your mind is at rest now it must have been a real relief to know it was the machine.Slimming World at target0 -

I'd also perpetually fret that I was doing the wrong thing and it'd all turn out to be a waste of money .... so many foods that you can grow yourself turn out to be more expensive than buying them.moneyistooshorttomention wrote: ».... medjool dates .... almond butter.....tahini ... rice milk
More alien foods - never had any of those ... and never seen them either.0 -

Thanks. I didn't feel especially worried - I have various health conditions that cause a variety of 'interesting' test results, and it wasn't hugely out. The relief when I found out it wasn't a problem came as a surprise though, so I must have been.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0 -

]I am glad you are feeling better mcc. Trouble is that people don`t start slowly with fermented food, digestve tract has to get used to it ie be colonised with the good bacteria and slowly. My husband had ulcerative colitis in his 30s and was hospitalised several times, I eventually weaned him off medication and onto fermented foods. He never looked back, even making his own kefir. I do make my owm sauerkraut too, in a large stone vessel
I have met people who don`t like to touch soil and I always wear gloves. Been up there all afternoon and have prepped and washed a very large lot of leeks for the freezer
I am sorry, I do realise that I have opened up a can of worms re food. Never forget that it is each to their own. I did start this way of eating young and love it I keep thinking tbh, now I am older and in my last quarter that really there are no more second chances re my health
Don`t tell me off LW for spouting facts but yoghurt is lactobacillus bulgaricus and streptococcus thermophilus and kefir is a long string of other, much more beneficial bacteria. Anyway I am not selling anyone anything, that is just how I eat and how I look after my health0 -
Today I think I've had:
2 small fruit scones + 2 teaspoons marmalade.
pasty, instant mash, peas, gravy (look!! 1/10)
2 chocolates, 2 bourbons
2 faux Weetabix, 90ml milk, 2 level teaspoons sugar.
Had to eat that Weetabix just now as the last of the milk needed using up as it had today's date on it...although it might be OK after today, my head would be thinking "gross" so it'd have made me gag to try it.0 -
Evening everyone
Ended up having a cheese and beetroot sandwich and a mug of soup at lunchtime - quick and easy, and just had a pear and the last plum a wee while ago:) Still no idea what to have for dinner.
I always wear latex gloves when I'm gardening as I'm not keen on touching slugs and being all pots my garden is rife with them and some of them are huge:eek:0 -

I don't think I could even touch slugs and snails with gloves on. Last year there was a problem with my front door and I couldn't lock it from the inside so I was using the back door. One night there were loads of slugs on the back door and I couldn't bring myself to use it - I ended up leaving the front door unlocked overnight.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0
