Pension date versus retirement age?

Can anyone explain why?
My wife's 65th birthday is 23 January and her pension is not due until May 2019?
I cannot find any reasons why this is legal in any of the Government details on Pensions?
My birthday was 3 march 1953 and I received my pension in April of that year!

Because the government changed the State Pension Age. It is gradually rising to 68.

You were obviously asleep when the Pensions Act 2011 came into law and increased the pension ages of both men and women gradually to 66.

As molerat says, your wife has just been caught by the change and has to wait an extra 3 months or so, others are waiting almost a year. In the near future, every one will wait until they actually are 66.

And younger people will not qualify until they are 67
