Thousands of pounds worth of grants go unclaimed each year and they're available for all sorts of wierd and wonderful projects - from energy savings to studying. I'd like to tap MoneySavers' collective knowledge to find the best ones.

What else can you find a grant for and what's the best way to get it?

    New bathroom
    Hi
Can anyone tell me if you can get a grant towards repairs to your bathroom. Our tiles were loose and when we started taking them down they all started to fall of and the plaster has gone down to the brick in places. It also broke the sink so we need the bathroom totally refurbishing and are on a very low income.
    Thanks

Try asking Jeeves (www.ask.co.uk) and Yahoo, MSN, etc as well.

Here are some links, as I can not search for info on your home town, as you just have "North East" as location.

Hoping someone can help. I'm currently unemployed, previous jobs have all been driving and would love to progress on to doing my class 2 (lgv C) licence. I've been offered some training, not thru the job centre but from one of the training companies they put me in touch with, but its not looking too hopeful that I'll be able to do it. The condition of getting the training is that I have a job to go to afterwards, and I'm yet to find someone willing to wait the time it takes to do the course before taking me on, if they want a driver they want one now, not in a few weeks. Its a catch 22 situation, no job without the training but no training without the job! So, does anyone know of any grants or funding that I could possibly apply for? Job centre are next to useless, have asked plenty of times but they dont seem too helpful. I've looked in to a cdl but have adverse credit history so not sure if thats viable.

Talk to your council about council/"social" housing? I think that's the way the system works and doubt there are any other grants specifically for what you need.

I am 47 years old and have been offered a University course following a recent period of study. I am in receipt of Incapacity Benefit and Disability Living Allowance. Will I be able to claim student loans/grants without my benefits being effected?

though you would need to check if this is still the case

    Qualifications grants
I am 62, unemployed, but have been in facilities management for over 30 years. However, most advertised jobs want membership of the British Institute of Facility Management, which I do not have. However, I believe I qualify for "vocational" membership, as a result of my experience and other qualifications. Unfortunately, BIFM needs almost 200 to assess my application, and I cannot afford same, being on benefits. Nor I cannot find any grants that might help with this small sum. I cannot borrow the money, nor ask anyone, and the Jobcentre and DWP are worse than useless, so any pointers would be most welcome. Well over 1000 applications for jobs thus far, perhaps membership of BIFM will help me get back to work. Fingers X-ed.

    Adult learning as a plumber
Im 35 and already in the construction industry. Wanting to further my career i want to train as a plumber. RF Training do such a course for the fee of 4,800. I know of the government grants which entitle me to 30 per week but the course only lasts 8 weeks so it will help a bit but i cant afford the rest. Are there any grants or bursaries available to adult learners that are not claiming any benefits etc?

I have used ILA every year since 2006 and have taken a bookkeeping course, my ECDL and am now studying Intro to Psychology. Marvellous!
