    Thanks Kitten and Abba. It is so exciting to be able to check. I admit to being just the littlest bit obsessed at the moment :rotfl:

    Sunny day, but have been marking for most of it :( Did manage a very quick dog walk which gave me some fresh air. The ironing mountain seems to be turning into a whole range atm so I will have to tackle it tomorrow. The week seems to be going very quickly. DH has a lot of expenses which have come out of our current account which he has not claimed for ! I keep suggesting a cash back cc for expenses but it's falling on deaf ears atm. I think things will be a little tight until pay day at the end of the month. I have another £60 waiting to pay off the mortgage but I think I'd better wait until we survive until the end of the month. Made some Shepherds Pie and Bolognaise for the freezer yesterday, so am feeling fairly smug :rotfl:

    So. I am still feeling the excitement of being able to log on every day and see my mortgage balance. The current balance is showing at £23,825. However, this is not a true reflection as November’s payment will only be taken in December due to our recent re-mortgage. It should probably be around £23,000 ish. I still have an ingenious plan to try and be under £20K by the New Year, but we shall see how this goes. I OPd £60 this morning which was combination of TTs and a win on the Postcode Lottery :T. I have started reading and recording my elec and gas meter readings again as this has slipped by the wayside regularly. I have designed a line chart on excel (which took far longer that it should have and at one point only showed one vertical line :rotfl: ) and am planning to stick it on the fridge door so DH and the DSs can see how this is going week by week. It may possibly (hopefully) have a motivating effect. The house is in chaos as the bathroom is in full re-fit mode. It has also affected the kitchen as we had a water softener installed also and has meant I have lost a big double cupboard (instead of the planned under sink cupboard) and am still struggling to find new homes for the contents. The other materials (bath, walk in shower and all the pipes and fittings etc) are neatly (!) placed in other rooms around the house. It’s like an obstacle course. The dog is very confused as he can’t get to his favourite place under the stairs and keeps retreating to his bed with big, exaggerated sighs :rotfl:. We have the majority of the spends for this saved but are putting the whole cost on DH’s 0%CC to allow us maximum interest and time to save the last little bit. A lot of money juggling going on in this house atm. Christmas shopping is happening little by little, but all the spends are in place for this including food shopping money, so no extra strain on the budget. Having a lazy start to the day having a cuppa in bed and reading diaries, but need to get up and get going now. Have a good Sunday.

    Oops, MIA again for a while, compounded by all the excitement of Christmas and then managing to lock myself out of my account. However, I have been plodding away in the background trying to be as frugal as possible. This is somewhat negated however by OH who although wanting to be mortgage free in principle, doesn't actually put it into practice :rotfl: (Even though I have entered a rotfl emoji, it is actually very frustrating !). The bathroom is now finished apart from the decorating and looks lovely. Although with all 4 DSs home all over Christmas I have hardly seen it. We went over budget unfortunately as little bit and pieces kept being added so priority is to pay off the 0% CC asap so that we can focus again on the OPs. Having said that I have paid a sneaky £250 OP just now, to get the ball rolling for 2019. Need to re-run the budget figures and do some spreadsheet crunching (one of my favourite things). I also really want to sort out improving my pension. I had a free consultation through work before Christmas and have a one to one appointment early Feb. I am not sure whether to keep the appointment or cancel and I can't help thinking it will just be about the IFA trying to sell me products. Perhaps I am being negative because I was badly burned by IFA "advice" in the past. I will keep pondering what to do. Also want to increase emergency fund which is a little sad atm. Will report back soon with some actual figures ! Happy New Year and good luck with all your MFW activities.

    So finally reporting back with some scores on the doors - randomly half way through the month! Will try and report more regularly going forward.

    As of today;

    Mortgage £22,084.98
    Emergency Savings 2,114.00
    FIRE Savings (reg saver) 2,033.00
    Pension AVCs 700.00

    I am planning to tidy up the mortgage balance with an OP later today so it is a nice round figure (and hopefully just in the £21s ) The emergency savings are a little sad, so will continue to build this up to at least £5000.
    The FIRE savings (regular saver at 5% and TPA AVCs) are also woefully too little too late, but I guess better late than never.

    We are also in the middle of a wrangle with Student Finance who are claiming DS3 has received an over-payment of maintenance loan of £4300 :eek: This dates back to 2016 when he started at one university which didn't work out for him so he left after Christmas. We are trying to sort this out but so far this academic year Student Finance have not paid him any money or his tutorial fees. They are a nightmare to try and deal with and it is costing us a small fortune on top of the "top up" money we were already contributing. This is scuppering our best laid plans somewhat. I have spent most of the morning on the phone and am now a little :mad: Hopefully it will be resolved soon.

    On that happy note, I am off to walk the dog who is giving me sad eyes at the moment. Hopefully a brisk walk around the park will sort things out. Have a good weekend all .

    It had to be done. I could no longer resist the lure of the OP. Even though DH is overseas and has managed to do all his spending via our current account instead of his CC :eek: I have paid over the sum of £94.85 so the mortgage balance has gone into the 21s :T Balance currently stands at £21,990 which I feel happy with as a suitably rounded number :rotfl: I will have to do a little account tweaking (i.e., borrowing from savings whilst awaiting DH's expenses), but it was account money really. Here's hoping with Feb's normal mortgage payment and hopefully some extra we can head down to the 20s. I want to try and find the daily interest figure now which I think will mean a call to FD in the morning. I still can't believe this online only bank has such poor resources when it comes to mortgages. Should hear the final outcome of DS3's Student Finance fiasco tomorrow. Let's hope it's not too painful. No doubt the bank of mum and dad will fit in to things somewhere. However, I will leave DS3 in no doubt that any monies we pay out to sort this for him will need to be paid back once he is in the real world of work. Can't have my retirement savings hampered in this way :rotfl:

    Just popping in to report a TT of 12p. Current account just hanging on in there following OH's frivolous spending overseas which should have been on the CC lol. I think I will have to do some money shuffling before next pay day, but will keep monitoring at the moment. For the last I don't know how many years, my working week has finished on a Thursday. However, due to some fiendish scheming by my line manager, I am now having to teach a Friday morning class and having Wednesday as a day off from next week until the end of the academic year. Am also having to take on an evening class again. So instead of feeling demob happy, I am gritting my teeth ready to face another day at the coal face tomorrow. Hey ho, I can relax come lunch time and go to Aldi as a treat. We MFWs know how to live.

    So, I survive my first Friday morning of teaching, but was very grumpy as I went in :rotfl: OH just landed back in the UK. His first text was to let me know he had accidentally withdrawn £500 instead of £50 from the cashpoint :eek: Hello OD and money shuffling. TT of 27p. It's the weekend. Have fun everyone.

    Cheeky little TT of 70p this morning. My current TT total is almost at £6.00. I will pay the total as an OP at the weekend. An idea I have stolen from SJ. So, words have been said in this household as OH has decided just to hold on to the £450 he accidentally withdrew at the cashpoint, just so he "has some cash handy" :eek: I did try to explain, yet again, a number of better uses for that amount if he felt it was spare !! It is very disheartening at times when I am working hard to save pennies wherever possible and he is making merry with £450. However, I will remain undaunted, but perhaps focus on my own FIRE rather than OPing. Hopefully that doesn't mean I have to leave this lovely site. I know GG is always a fan of the low cost tracker S&S ISA and also that GreenT discussed opening one of these accounts recently, so I will do my investigations, stop prevaricating and start a little investing of my own. In other news, I have just switched Gas & Elec via MSE Energy Club, so should receive £25 cash back in due course. DS4 dance fees paid (ouch), and have just received notification of a trip to Germany that he can't wait to attend (double ouch). A little bit of budgeting required for that. Pay day tomorrow - I cannot wait (neither can the current account :rotfl: )
