Moving flats in Edinburgh - man with van or full service?

Hi all

We're moving from New Town down to Leith and need to get our removals sorted. We are in a fully furnished flat but have brought some furniture with us (landlord's stuff is stored in a loft space) so would like to get some help moving.

Has anyone had good experiences with man-with-van type services, or conversely with the full service (pack and shift)? We're getting some quotes in, and my worry is that the man-with-van will require us to get a load of boxes and packing materials at notable cost (i.e. reducing the financial benefit of packing ourselves) and may also result in damages.

We moved up from England and had the full service as my wife's employer picked up tab, it cost a fortune but not sure how comparable prices would be as we're moving about 2 miles!

Recommendations for reputable firms also appreciated!

  • How much stuff do you have? I moved from a part furnished to unfurnished place, a workmate hired a van came over with a mate and they, with my OH , moved me over; I did a few trips in my car as did another mate of mine.

Total cost £100 for van, diesel and rum for my car mate.

My move was a few miles further from Leith than what you are doing.

    Enjoy your new place!
