I'm 31, single and live on my own mortgaged house on a fair salary - but one that gets eaten up heftily by mortgage and other living expenses as I live alone. I often wonder if there are any grants available for people like me, who are on above average salaries but, because of being single, still can struggle a bit. I know about tax exemption on the first chunk of renting a room but wondered if anyone knew of anything else? Cheers, S0

I've had a look and I think if you were to be insulating your home and making it more energy efficient you may be eligible for some help. You could contact your local Council to ask them about home improvement grants and grants for making your home more energy efficient. There is a website I came across re grants available for landlords but it may be only for houses that are let out, not rooms. Not sure. May be worth having a look though.

The info on this link is not so much grant assistance but free language courses for small to medium sized businesses that trade internationally. The classes are available at centres in Cambridge, Chelmsford, Luton and Bedford. They do state a small admin fee may apply. May be worth a look if you do trade internationally though.

Came across this one.
There is a section that allows you to search for grants using your postcode. Covers things such as cavity wall insulation, loft insulation, Low energy light bulbs etc.
