Everyone (pretty much) knows the direct.gov.uk site. Many many forums will have links to specific pieces of information at that site - these will all die when it changes.

What benefit do WE get from this change? (WE = the people who employ those in government). This looks like a lot of wasted investment for no benefit at all - especially in these times of austerity. How does this factor as a priority investment of limited resources?

Just don't touch the HMRC site, for God's sake.

I still haven't done the tax return for 2011/12.

Wait till I'm done, and got a receipt number.
They can lose files, make transcription errors and then decide the new system is not for purpose afterwards.

Hi I work for Government Digital Service and we have worked very hard to make sure that links to specific information remain live. If you want to see how we have done that you can read all about it in an article written by my colleague Paul Downey. I am not allowed insert link into this post - but if you visit digital [dot] cabinetoffice [dot] gov [dot] uk the article is called No Link Left Behind

We hope that you will find the GOV.UK, simpler, clearer and faster to use. Hope this helps.

The search facility seems particularly "web 3.0" - complete with a lack of advanced search, biasing towards some results, and lack of way to search for a complete phrase.
Search for "loss of", "loss of consciousness", (with quotes "loss of")
I also cannot find a copy of http://www.dwp.gov.uk/publications/specialist-guides/decision-makers-guide/ at all in the new website.

I am glad to hear of 'no link left behind' - but am locally cacheing the DMG, just in case..

I would make the joke that the blank page headed 'Disabled people
Includes your rights, benefits and the Equality Act', is accurate, because this blank page now lists the entire rights and benefits available to the disabled.

But this seems lots less funny in the face of comments made by ministers over the last year or two.

Did you read the MSE article?

If so, you will have seen...
A test version of Gov.uk is currently available, although the new version will replace this when it goes live on 17 October.
I.e. what is there at the moment is a test version.

When accessing the site, I am sure you also saw...
...you can explore the website by using this experimental trial (‘beta’) version.
PLEASE BE AWARE – this is a test website. It may contain inaccuracies or be misleading. Directgov and Business Link remain the official websites for government information and services.

Although the current website may seem ok to us as a user, it may be very restrictive and the chance to grow it may be limited. This change is likely to be an upgrade to the web platform and therefore allow more functionality.
