Nursemaggie, AgeUK will take old unsaleable clothing. I give stuff a final wash, bung it in a charity bag turned inside out and stick a label on it with Clean Rags written on it so they don't have to open and sort it again.

Take the coat out in a carrier bag and dump it in a wheelie bin in a quiet street! And my son, when they lived in an inner city street in Leith, used to take all unwanted bits of furniture out in the middle of the night and leave them on the pavement. By morning the fairies had been and collected them..

We used to leave our unwanted stuff outside on Sundays Mar - there was a very busy Catholic Church opposite and most stuff was gone by lunchtime, including chairs and mattresses!

Charity shops may take coats for ragging at this time of year. Alternatively animal charities may take them for bedding. It's just a question of being creative! There are also lots of projects that take broken electricals to teach people to repair them. Freecycle/Freegle are often good places to offer broken stuff for 'spares or repair'.

I must go to the CS tomorrow as I have a bag of stuff I want out of the way, and I need to do some food shopping, which is on the way.

No Age UK in Bolton, don't fancy taking it to the Christie with me. There is one near there. I have a list of all the projects in Bolton and no one does electricals. I think our freegle is dead. there is no freecycle.

My Christmas cactus I have had for a few years, has just finished flowering . It started a couple of weeks before Christmas. I don't think I have ever had one last to spring.

No one leaves their bin out once they are emptied since they went so small. People pinch them so they have more room for rubbish. I expect they don't want to find any rubbish in it either.

You've got an Emmaus in Bolton NM - are you sure they can't help? They're usually pretty good at taking stuff to refurbish or use for training. Might be worth giving them a call.

I'm very upfront about rubbish, I've been in contact with all my neighbours during the renovations and most of them don't put out full wheelie bins. Well, they're not full when they put them out, but they're full when they're picked up

During the renos I've had 1 rubbish collection man (he took 3 loads of rubble, bricks and palm pieces from the garden in an hour) and 1 skip (for about 5 tonnes of concrete when we chopped the wall down). Other than that, wheelie bins all the way. And gumtree, many people want rubbish I couldn't think of a use for (damaged doors, broken flyscreen, unusable spa bath)

The only bit of advice I have Nursemaggie, is what I've done with larger things, chop it into bits and send a bit out each week. If it works with a garden fence it'd work with a coat

I think we are all taking at cross purposes. Our wheelie bins hold two small rubbish bags, I call them pencil cases because I once had one that looked like it only it was yellow and these are not much bigger. They are smaller than the old tin bins we used to have. They have to last two weeks. If I cut up everything we need to get rid of they would have to be in postage stamp pieces put out once every two weeks. I will be dead long before. I don't even think I want to live as long as that.

I think even the world could be dead before I get rid of it.

Emmaus Only take furniture. Our one does anyway. I only have a broken bookcase that is beyond repair. It only cost about £10 so it was not ever well made, its probably chipboard. The broken electricals all have lots of peaces. Some only the size of match boxes. Guess who they nearly all belonged to. I have been paying to move them around for him for years.

We have not been able to put them in dustbins for years. They look in everyone and if it has anything that should not be in it it does not get emptied at all. We had two green bins here that were filled with ordinary rubbish before we moved in. They were finally taken away a few months ago and not returned, so we still can't recycle green waste.

NM I've just. checked google and it says there's an Age UK in Victoria Square Bolton next to Game. Does that ring any bells?

Bolton Hospice and British Heart Foundation shop will take working electricals. Google them, there's a phone number where they say they will collect. Don't know if that's just big items though
