2 meters

We are currently with eon.
We have 2 electric meters, one for normal use the other for our electric heating. (No gas)
We have tried to switch suppliers in the past but the new supplier couldn’t deal with 2 meters and this materialised after we did the switch which led to much confusion and frustration!
Does anyone know if there are now suppliers who can deal with two meters? The only threads I can find are from 2003.

What type of heating do you have ? Do you also have 2 MPANs on your bill ? What tariff are you currently on ?

With many of these 2 meter set ups you are pretty much stuck with your current supplier and the best option would be to have an E7 or E10 meter fitted which may need some wiring changes at your cost. Another option, which is unlikely to be economical with electric heating, is to switch to a single rate which any supplier with over 50K customers must offer with your existing metering.

Hello simpson.a and welcome to the Forums.

From your description, I suspect you've a Restricted Hours Tariff (RHT) set up. These involve two meters with, as you say, one recording electricity used for heating/hot water and the second recording all other electricity usage. They were designed mainly for all electric properties with storage heaters. To work, one of the meters will be wired into the heating circuits at the property.

We're looking to replace this type of metering and have a specialist team who deal exclusively with these exchanges. This our Simpler Metering team. If they haven't already, they'll be in touch to talk about replacing the meters with, as molerat says, an Economy 10, Economy 7 or single rate meter. They'll go through all the options to agree what's best for your circumstances including what impact each option is likely to have on your heating/hot water.

The Economy 7 or single rate options will give you a much wider choice of tariffs both with us and with the other suppliers. If you do come under our Simpler Metering project, there's no charge for meter exchanges to any of the three options I've mentioned.

If this is of interest please contact us and ask to speak to Simpler Metering (available 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday).

Hope this is of interest simpson.a.
