PIP - When To Reapply?

In July 2017, I was awarded PIP at tribunal for two years. Unusually, I wasn't invited to reapply in July 2018, one year before this ends, so obviously I'm going to have to reapply myself. How far in advance would people recommend I do this?

    Why not wait until you receive the DWP renewal form?

    In the meantime start to gather medical evidence / prepare a diary for the renewal form.

    This thread suggests that you are on a fixed term PIP award, and that is the reason you were not invited to reapply in July 2018:

    You should received a letter three months before your PIP award ends that will invite you to reapply.
    The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.

    I am going to disagree with the advice above.

    You need to look at your PIP award letter and see if you have a fixed term award. You said you were awarded for 2 years at the tribunal but this may not mean from that date.

    If you have a fixed term award then your PIP will end if you do not ask for a renewal.

    You can ask for a renewal 6 months in advance of the end of the fixed term.

    Personally I would ring and find out when your fixed term ends and when you should renew.

    Better safe than sorry.

    Thank you both. I hadn't realised they send a form out in these circumstances. All medical evidence (nothing new from last time, but as condition is the same, still valid) is collected together and ready. I like the idea of a diary. I'll do that.

    Thanks also pmlindyloo. I've looked at my award letter, and it says my PIP will end in July 2019. And it also says, I'll get a letter about 14 weeks before that, if I want to reapply - didn't notice this before. Which, if I'd read it before, would have answered my question! Sorry.

    No problem.

    I would still ask for a renewal before that date. 14 weeks is not long if you wish to book an appointment to see a welfare specialist for help/support to complete the renewal form. The form should be treated as if you were applying for the first time and needs more than ticking 'no change'.

    There may also be a long waiting time if you need a face to face assessment.

    Personally I would telephone in February for the form.

    Right. In my mind before I started this thread, I too had thought February. That gives me five months for everything to happen.

    And just to add...………………! You may not be sent a renewal form. You may be sent another PIP application as you appear to have a fixed term award.

    Plus, have just reread your thread and it seems that you have no new medical evidence.

    I would strongly suggest that you get a letter from GP saying that your condition(s) have not improved etc etc. Just a brief recap really from the GP.

    They may be happy with the 'old medical evidence' but a fixed award might imply that they believe your condition may improve due to new medication/treatment etc etc. so it could be important to let them know (backed up by recent medical evidence) that it has not improved.
