High water bills

We are paying £60/month for water in a 3 bed semi house, 2 adults, 2kids. I've always thought this is high but maybe we do use a lot of water I'm not sure. What should I do to get this checked? The only thing the water company have said is check the water meter throughout the night in case there is a leak?

As the water company has advised - read your meter regularly (and keep records).

To check for an external leak turn off the stop tap into your house for a few hours and see if the meter moves
Never pay on an estimated bill

If the above test shows no leak, turn the water back on and check for an internal leak, simply by looking at the meter. If it's going around when you're not using any water then you're losing water somewhere. Toilet cisterns would be the most likely suspect.
  • That does seem high to me, we are 4 adults and one child (2 children well over 20yrs old now) in a 3 bed semi and on water meter, we pay £30 month and that leaves us in credit each year.

Are you on a meter, if not it is worth it, took £200 off a year for us.
