Has anyone else had problems with Yell/ Yell.com? Going to court? 19th May 11 at 10:34 AM
    Hello,
I've searched the forums but I can't find anything that relates to my specific problem. I took out a "good" package with Yell last November that was supposed to include a new website, Google SEO, Yell mediumweight ad and Netreach (eg Facebook ads +)

From the start there were problems and no matter how hard I tried I couldn't get to speak to a manager. I made several telephone complaints as the weeks went by, covering various aspects of the service that I was paying for.

By Feb I went to trading standards as Yell were not providing the service, eg the site didn't show up in ANY Google search results, there was no sign of Netreach being provided (their staff could not confirm if it WAS being provided!) & the website was very poor quality, completely unsuitable for a photographer. They were also very slow to make amendments to the website (as promised within 24 hours) so this meant that as I had to wait a week or more for changes I could'nt lick the website into shape.

The mediumweight ad was the only component being provided but that backfired! Instead of getting customer enquires I only got calls from other companies trying to sell me their services. Sometimes I get 4 calls within 30 minutes. I never had a single sales lead generated during my time with Yell.

So, I gave them 14 days to provide the service (as per Trading Standards instructions) - they did not respond in writing at all. They phoned me on about day 13 of the waiting period and I said that the time for talking was over and they needed to make a written response by email within the next 24 hours. They agreed to this.

However, they did not make any further response for another 2 weeks! I had, by then, sent another letter cancelling my contract due to their breech of contract. I also cancelled my direct debit at that point. I specifically asked them to remove my mediumweight ad because it causes so many spam phone calls.

All that was during Feb/March 2011. Today I got an email from Yell telling me that they are still counting up debts against my account. I called and explained the situation, but the lady I spoke to said that I couldn't cancel the advert (even though I had already cancelled in writing due to breech of contract). Yell intend to continue charging me and then refer the matter to debt management team because I originally signed a 1 year contract.

Has anyone else had similar problems? What happened?
Please get in touch if you are in this situation.

I'm willing to let them take me to court so a judge can decide on this case. The product was mis-sold and I feel it's unfair that they can sell a whole package then only provide one component of it, yet force me to pay by weighting the charge in favour of that one component.

    Miss sold
Hi,I have miss sold contract by YELL rep. He told me yell will host my emails with new page and yell will set up facebook and tweeter profile for me. So I was happy with that and sign a contract. All was smooth to the day when payment for design gone from my account. Then is starts! Was horrible way to make changes in design and I find out Yell was unable to host my emails. They request to resign my domain to them name ( not redirect). So domain wont be register on my name any more! Thats was try to get my domain and control me on yell way!! Bad Bad! So I agree to reduce monthly charge hosting from yell so I can pay my hosting company. OK fair enough! But yell decide that never gonna happen! Lie to me and change what we agree! That was beginning of problems. When I ask for my facebook and tweeter profile yell said they never doing that When I said I was told by yell rep. will get ALL PROFILES yell told me YOU SHOULD READ YOUR CONTRACT!! So yell sending reps to miss sell just to get money from customers and after sending stinky emails and taking to deb recovery companies. I was complaint servant times to manager and all possible way. But no matter what, they wont my money! Will complain to trading standards and BE AWARE OF BAD SERVICE PROVIDED

Hi Paula, am going through a very similar story with yell, except they have taken the money with no results. I have a link pending, and that is it. I am trying to get my money back, but nobody is contacting me. A lot of hard selling, promises, poor if no results. I am out of pocket by just under 400, and have nothing to show other than a string of " Ticket " emails, leading me nowhere.
I have just contacted You and Yours, BBC radio 4. They are great at looking into this kind of poor service.
    Good luck
    Oliver

    Hi All,

I am currently going through this with Yell.com as well. A sales rep came to my house in April 2018 and we agreed on a "monthly rolling contract of 82.50 per month for a basic listing and sponsored VIP spot for 2 areas". I was handed the laptop whereby on the screen was a blown up box for me to put my signature in.

I signed, I was happy with what we had agreed. Then the next day I received the PDF file of what I had signed and while it states "monthly rolling contract" in large print at the top of the signature box, at the bottom, in little font it says "minimum 12 month term". This was NOT discussed or even mentioned when the sales rep was at my house.

So I tried to cancel, after an argument the sales rep agreed that if it was not working for me in August this year then he would agree to just cancel it. I slept on it, and decided that no, I want to cancel now. Only to be told that I had signed the contract so could now not cancel until April 2019.

Before people say "you should have seen the 12 month minimum term statement" - I would have done if the sales rep had not enlarged the signature box for me to sign, his words were "this is just to say you are happy with what we have discussed" - and I was happy...but he chose not to discuss ALL of it which is my complaint.

So, after speaking to Citizen's Advice, I have logged a complaint with the Consumer Helpline (03454 04 05 06), who in turn, register it with trading standards. They also advised that I should do some research to see if others have had similar issues, if there are lot's of people who have fallen for the same tactic (not disclosing the 12 month minimum term until AFTER you have signed) then it could demonstrate to a judge that it isn't the customer's who are in the wrong, but that something else is the root cause of it - i.e mis-selling tactics.

Therefore, can I ask that others who have been sucked in to this scam as well please register it with the Consumer Helpline?

I know that we are only little people here but if we all stand up then maybe someone might listen and help do something about these rogue companies.

    Thank you,
    Daniel

It's called E-contracting, as soon as you sign you are bound by the contract and they will not let you cancel. At the point of sale they have to make it clear how long the contract is for. You can insist they provide you with a transcript of the telephone call if it was their tele sales team, If it was a sale rep visiting you, you can't do that. All their sales are made business to business so there is no cooling off period to cancel.

This is a very common issue with Yell, If you search for "Yell Trustpilot" - filter by 1 star and you can see time and time again people complaining of the same thing.

Keep a record of every email and letter you send.

Stick to your guns that you were missold. They are very unpleasant to deal with if you want to cancel. What they don't want is publicity about what they are doing.

You and the above person are quite right - what they are doing need investigating.

Other thing you could do is try posting on the business facebook page / trustpilot page or emailing the head of yell directly as then I believe they have to deal with the complaint differently.

I think the trustpilot review will give the judge a lot of evidence- a lot on there are obviously fake positive ones - you can see the real ones very easily and most have a similar complaint to yours.

Hi, I am having the same problem with Yell.com .
They sold me advertising which didn't deliver what they promised.
I am considering going to the small claims court to recover my money.
Since taking out the advertising which includes a website I haven't had a single phone call,
The product that they sold me is obviously defective ,I paid out over 1,100 pounds in the reasonable expectation that I would receive some business from the ads, but to date I have had no response whatsoever.
They bombarded me with statistics about how I would be too of the listings ect ,it is and was all nonsense.

I believe that the minimum 12 month contract sold by Yell should be illegal, and that only monthly rolling contracts should be allowed.
A monthly rolling contract would allow the advertiser to gauge whether the advert is working for them and if it isn't delivering they can go elsewhere.
Also their should be a cooling off period for any contract.
Which means the buyer is protected from salespeople using hardselling techniques.

Hi Alex I have read your post with interest, I know it is a bit late, but I would be interested to know if you got your problem with Yell resolved and did you take them to the small claims court and what was the result..
I am having problems with Yell my self and am considering taking my case to the small claims court.

what most people seem to misunderstand is that you are not buying a consumer good. This is a commercial contract and as such you have no consumer rights.

As a business - research before you sign.

I have never liked the idea of a min 12months contract either, it's the main reason why I haven't taken up further adverts with them.
    I thought there was a 14-day cool-off, but maybe that's not accurate?
Their websites are 'designed' (or certainly were a few years ago), using the Moonfruit platform ? They are just templates really, and they don't really pay much attention to SEO.
I wouldn't use Yell for a website again!

In Yell's defense, no advertising guarantees you anything though, BUT they shouldn't be lying to you in their sales patter either!

I thought there was a 14day cooling off period as well , according to Yell that doesn't apply in a business to business contract.

Funny actually, Yell seem to be on another sales drive, got an email today from them, advertising their website design services lol... I know where that email is going!

    Really bad YELL
hi I run a very small security installation business. Yell approached me for advertising my business in Edinburgh area. They said they will put me in number three and there sales manager said they are so confident that they wont charge me anything until next month so I will pay them once I started getting work. I didn't release this that's just a scam. I didn't received a single call except couple of calls trying to flog me more adds when they based my number to bing for registration they tried to flog another thing. after first payment I got very upset started phoning yell but no help they kept saying it will take time they were charging 250 to be in that spot and get business I never got not even a single sale. when I started phoning them every day demanding to speak to relevant people they started putting other areas. then they sent some body to my house when I stopped direct debit . yell rep came to my being all apologetic and gave me a shock after saying rather than 250 pay us 400 and you will start getting work, that's where I realise they will scam me even more I told them many times on I don't want to do anything with you guy. they sent me solicitor letter and threating me to take me to court I got very small business and I am so stressed to close business down. don't know where to go who to see and what to do

I've had the exact same issue! Yell said they would get me to the first page of Google and after 7 months I'm still not showing up in the search results!! I have cancelled the direct debit and they have now passed on my details to a debt recovery agency.

We all need to contact Trading standards, BBC Watchdog and get this horrendous scam company shut down.

I am also having issues with Yell
After signing up to what I thought was a sure deal to a slot 2 Yell sub, I was under the impression that I would provide images and descriptions ect and they would mannage the yell slot.

Afrer signing up i was told i would be called from them the next day to get some content on the page (this never happen).

After about a week my wife gave birth to our surprise as we didn't know she was pregnant so I call yell as soon as i could to cancel my sub but apparently because i signed up to 1 years sub they could only offer me 3 month free while i get eveything sorted.

Unfortunately at the moment we are stuck in hospital being treated for sepsis meaning i have bigger fish to fry than engraving and to my horror i find yell have left me over drawn they still took there money.

I called them straight away to ask why they still took there money even thou we have this 3month suspension and they say because at the time of spending the account the transaction was already active, thanks for letting me know no email, no text or no call was made to let me know this transfer was going out (they said they give a 10day notoce to transactions).

If anyone has any advice on this I would very much appreciate
