Assest Collections??

My husband got a letter from these at the weekend dated 24/9/2019 (already seems to be a problem) it saying they've taken over the debt from perch. He hasnt ever heard of either of them and has no idea from where the debt has come from. The letter doesnt explain this only ways to pay and contact. I said before paying to email them as they've stated they've done this too which they haven't! emailed them asking to explain the debt and all information and a read receipt was put on it. This hasnt been opened as of yet and unsure what to do next.
He does have debt which he's paying off to the right people.
I've read not to call them but to keep it all in a paper trial of everything sent to them.

Any information would be great :)

  • If I got a letter from a company saying I owed them debt and I know I dont I would have no issue calling them to find out where the information is from.

However as you say your husband is in debt is it possible he has had a debt from years ago that he hasnt addressed or acknowledge that has then been passed over.

Best bet is checking where the debt originates. A phone call wont make a difference of owing the money or not owing the money.
  • the debt is recent and is paying to someone he and i know the company of if that makes sense.
We've emailed like it says we can do in the letter just wanted to see if anyone else has. No other debt from previous years as that's been sorted years back
  • Best thing is to see what they reply back. Could it have even been something ridiculous like a missed gym payment when he moved or something small when cancelling a direct debit.

Did it say how much it was for?
  • yes the amount was 794 i think off the top of my head. the debt he's had and currently paying wasn't that figure so not sure where its come from :/ guess we will see what response we will get, thank you though!

Normally if your debt has been "sold on" then you should have some notification of that change - of course it does depend on if you've moved etc.

If youve moved and the original company can't find you they could sell the debt on and then AC will try and trace and may have found you.

As said - phone call can't hurt - it can also be mistaken identity - if your name is similar to an original debtor and in the same area - these companies sometimes make assumptions and guesses that may be right or wrong.
  • Send the "Prove it" letter referred to on one of the sticky threads at the top of the board perhaps? This could simply be a fishing exercise from these people - in which case you don't particularly want to enter into correspondance by email or telephone.

Asset collections were rebranding themselves as perch, but in June 2019 changed their name again, (same directors, same address, same people basically) so already they are playing mind games with you.

My suspicion is they did this so they could relaunch court action on all the struck out cases brought in the name of asset collections, (of which there are many, as they never turn up in court) in the hope the court would not realise, and claim it was all legit.

Anyway they specialise in buying old payday loans, and are a shambolic excuse for a debt purchasing company.

Send the provit letter, where debt or money is concerned, everything should be done in writing only, letter can be found here :

  • Thank you we will certainly send this. He has never heard of neither of them and hasn’t ever taken out a payday loan so we will do this and see what happens
