Poll started 13 November 2018
Haggling isn't just tried at call centres and market stalls, some even do it at high street chains. If you have, have you succeeded? Whether it's asking 'em to throw in some extras or negotiating a discount.

Please answer for all the following stores you have tried to haggle in WITHIN THE LAST 12 MONTHS.

Haggling at call centres is well worth it, unless things have changed from when I used to work at them.

I worked at TSB's credit card centre and if people asked - which 9 out of 10 wouldn't and they asked nicely, I'd give them all their interest charge back! The main thing I hated, was people moaning at me about being charged. one, it was their fault 99.9 % of the time (on the rare occasions a bank had cocked up sending the payment on the date it was paid in, that obviously would get a refund), two - I didn't make the rules, so don't have a go at me. If people were aggressive and rude to me, I'd make them go round in circles before I finally agreed to make a refund and they'd be made to listen to a long lecture on how to avoid in future!!

I laughed at people haggling in Poundland - really?!!

And as for charity shops, that's downright mean. Charities are for helping people or animals so no way would I make an offer on something. I ususally give a donation as well when I pay, especially one shop which is for a home for stray animals - they always get an extra £10. I've taken in things to help them as well, like a cat basket and a cat carrier - when my last one had to be put to sleep as got so ill and he was 18 years, miss him like mad :(
