1979 claim and Barclaycard 29th May 19 at 12:00 PM
How do I claim from a loan which I have no paperwork for in 1979 as I know I had PPI on it ? I have a new Barclaycard account now, but I had an old Barclaycard account in the 80's to the middle of the 90's which when they have checked the account they always refer to the new account, How do I have the old account checked again i have no paperwork?

First of all I don't believe PPI existed in 1979 but stand to be corrected.

If it did do you really think they will have paperwork 40 years later?

Very unlikely. All providers will have published retention periods and SHOULD NOT keep records for any longer than is required. Once a file is outside of any retention period, it will be destroyed, erased or made anonymous in line with Data Protection obligations.
So don't expect Barclaycard to have the records, as you would not want them to hold all details about you indefinitely.

It could have existed in 1979 but the banks didnt really start misselling it until the very late 80s/early 90s. Most of them didnt have a product available on every credit type until the mid to late 80s.

statistically, its highly unlikely it a) had PPI and b) any record exists today.
