External Wall Insulation

Our home was built in stone in 1913 so has no wall insulation. I’m very interested in external wall insulation as it currently has render that is cracking.
Does any one know how much roughly to expect a three bedroom detached house to cost. Also any recommendations of companies that cover the Chepstow (South Wales) area
Are there any grants?
Thanks in advance

Do your research very thoroughly. External wall insulation on a solid wall can often lead to more problems that it solves. There is a very real chance that water (damp) could get behind the EWI and make the wall wetter than it already is. Damp walls conduct heat to the outside faster than a dry one. To combat any issues with damp, the EWI should be vapour permeable (including the render) and the detailing must be of the highest standard - Most installers will want to use stuff like expanded polystyrene and slap a coat of K-Rend on top, pay scant regard to window reveals or any complex junctions at the roof line.
Have a chat with the guys over at Mike Wye - They may be able to recommend someone. It won't be cheap, and there isn't any grants available that I know of.
Also bear in mind that you'll need building control to sign off on the work (check to see if planning permission is required). If you are in a conservation area or the property is listed, there will be additional hoops to jump through along with extra costs. Her courage will change the world.
Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.0 -
Thanks for your advice - very much appreciated0

Have since found out ours is Sand and cement and likely to be more difficult as it's likely failing hence the damp0
