Nationwide Mobile phone Insurance - Used/secondhand phones?

Hi.

Does nationwide bank allow you to insure used mobile phones say bought from eBay etc or do they have to be purchased new with receipt?

Proof of ownership
Documentation which details the phone and/or accessories which you, or your Family members, are responsible for. The mobile phone proof of ownership must show the: IMEI number, make, model and memory size. This could include sales documentation or a mobile phone statement.

NB, few (if any) mobile phone statements will show this level of detail, other than an original purchase receipt.

do you have to register the imei number on their website?

As long as you don't make a claim in the first 6 months, I think they will be reasonable.

Though the networks will supply a print out showing the IMEI as used on the account over a specified time period on request.

I've made a couple of claims in the last 12 months through my Nationwide account for broken iPhones (teenage daughters....).

Both phones were bought second hand and (one ebay & one Gumtree).

No issues at all with either claim & I wasn't asked for proof of purchase - They appeared to be able to tell that the phone in question had been used with the mobile number for a few months and were happy with that.

It's FlexPlus: Nationwide – Up to £700 of cover for £156/yr

You don't have to switch, but Nationwide does offer £100+£100 "Recommend a Friend" bonus that requires switching.

or you can pay nothing, and earn 5% interest on upto £2500 for a year.
