    I recently switched to Plusnet for the offer with the 75 reward card. When I tried to sign up online I got told that I would need a new phone number as the existing one could not be transferred. Knowing this to be rubbish, I phoned them up and got told that I was correct and that they could complete the sign up over the phone. I specifically checked that this was exactly the same deal and got told that yes it was.

    The switch went OK but the email link to claim the reward never arrived. I queried this and was told that the deal I was on didn't include a reward and sorry but there was nothing they could do.

    I told them that this was totally unacceptable and insisted that the matter was escalated. To give them credit a manager did phone me back pretty quickly and agreed that they would go back to the recording of the original conversation to check what I had been told but that this would take 3 working days (it would also cost them way more than if they just gave me my 75, but never mind).

    3 working days passed and nothing. I then phoned them again and confirmed that I had been told that I would get the 75 (so why hadn't they contacted me?). Unfortunately the catch was that the only way they would do it was by putting a 75 credit on my account. I was tempted to make a fuss but worn down by their heel dragging I agreed to this. Needless to say I will be checking my bills very carefully to make sure that I'm not charged a penny until this credit is used up.

    I have no way of knowing whether this is a common occurrence or whether I was just unlucky but I can't say I'm impressed with Plusnet and, if you do sign up with them over the phone, check very carefully to make sure that are giving you the proper offer and don't take no for an answer.
