Renewed passport - how long from "Dispatched" to receipt?

I applied for a renewed passport online with the official .gov website. Last Friday, when I logged in, the status was dispatched but yesterday (Monday), no passport arrived. I did tick the box and paid the extra £3 for secure delivery and I was wondering, how long, by your experience, from "Dispatched" status till actual receipt? I did get a text from "Her Majesty's Passport" as well, confirming dispatch.
The reason people don't move right down inside the carriage is that there's nothing to hold onto when you're in the middle.

I received a text and within half an hour it had arrived.

I'm not sure what the £3 gets you. I didn't pay anything but the passport fee and it was a signed for delivery by a specialist courier.

The £3 is for the return of the old passport, it's nothing to do with the new one. My new passport took a couple of days after the text was sent, and the old one arrived several days after that.

I did not pay the extra three pounds and the old passports came in the post on a saturday morning about a hour after a courier had delivered the new passports! The passport office seem to be turning the passports out faster these days.
ITS NOT EASY TO GET EVERYTHING WRONG ,I HAVE TO WORK HARD TO DO IT!

Looks like the £3 is for secure return of important documents such as birth and marriage certificates where they need sending.

For a renewal these aren't generally required so if none were sent don't pay the £3!

The £3 that I paid was for secure return of the old passport, I did it because as well as my expired UK passport I had to send my NZ passport (also expired, but the only official document I have that shows my NZ citizenship).

I renewed the other week, I got the SMS saying my passport had been dispatched and it was delivered the next day.

I did not pay the £3 for secure delivery of my old passport, however it was delivered by DX at the same time as my new passport, in a separate envelope.

Thanks guys. Looks like I was being rather impatient. The new and old passports arrived today.
Also looks like I could've saved myself £3.
