Please help with make up obsession

I hope someone can advise me. This problem is now bugging me and I want it sorted.
I have an unhealthy obsession with make up, Boots is the main store I visit . I don't own a lot of products but I obsess about what is right for me, mainly foundation. I flit between Clinique and Boots No7 brands. I worry about Clinique being too expensive and am I wasting my money, yet I like it and feel good wearing it and it does last. However, No7 is OK too and no one seems to know the difference of what I use.
Its got to the stage where I am visiting the beauty counters in Boots almost daily and the assisttants know me and they look at me as if they are thinking 'She's here again'. One day a girl on the No7 counter asked me if I am having problems finding suitable foundations as I go in a lot. I now feel embarrassed about it.
I collect more samples than I do products, especially of foundation. I have been colour matched by No7 but still wonder if the shade is right for me and keep checking different ones.
Its also all I want to talk about to family and friends and colleagues. I know its natural for a woman to want to talk about make up but not when its the only subject.
I visit beauty blogs and websites a lot and You Tube videos, plus I am in a Facebook beauty group and go by what people recommend, even though it may not be right for me.
How do I control this? Also do I give in a buy the more quality Clinique seeing as I only use a few products or stick to No7 which is really just as good.
I would be grateful for any advice.

It sounds like you prefer Clinique. If you prefer it and you can afford it then buy Clinique. You don’t need to justify it to anyone other than yourself. In the end over the course of the time you’re talking about what, £1 a week or something? I buy very expensive bath oils. It’s a treat but I LOVE them and having experimented with others, the expensive ones are better. It’s worth it to me. Only you can decide what’s worth it to you Money saving isn’t about always having the cheapest thing, sometimes it’s about saving where you can so you can splurge where you want to.0

If it’s any help, as a man the thing that turns me off about a woman is a lot of makeup. Natural skin looks far nicer. Spend time going for a run, or a walk, that will give you a healthy glow. But avoid excess sun of course, not really an issue at the moment.0

I can't see anything in the OP which suggests the makeup is intended to be for the benefit of men...
Or that says she likes men...
I think other activities may be needed to fill the space currently occupied by make up as a hobby rather than a quick morning five minute fix. Or a chat with a decent counsellor.2021 GC £1365.71/ £24000 -
Recognising a thought process and examining it is a good step to deciding if you want to change it. I have a few thoughts:
You only really need to think about makeup when you are about to run out and buy more. no 7 or Clinique? Toss a coin each time you run out and need to buy more. If you find you are hoping it will land one way or the other that's your answer. But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.

Thank you all for your replies. I do have other interests such as family history and card making. I work full time and my mind is occupied. But I still obsess about make up.
It has nothing to do with what men like and think, I wear make up to suit me.
I do have anxiety and depression and take medication for it. I have had obsessions in the past but not quite as intense as this.
I also worry about the future, like say if I buy Clinique now because I can afford it, what if there comes a time when I can no longer afford it? I worry about things that might happen. A friend and work colleague make a good comment to me yesterday, she said 'There might be another ice age in years to come but I'm not going to buy any skates now. You have to live for the here and now'. She is right of course but but I find it so hard to do.0 -
I would ask your GP about talking therapies. Have you had CBT before?2021 GC £1365.71/ £24000

I’m unable to give the viewpoint of a woman, so just gave mine for what it was worth. And it’s not about sexual attraction, or appeal, but the impression given.0 -
There is a discussion board on Reddit called Makeup Rehab. You will find a lot of people in a similar situation to you. Discussion about specific products is generally not allowed, it is mainly about thought processes.
I agree with the suggestion of talking to your GP for more personal support.0 -
On many makeup forums, they have people who start No Buys, they form their own little group and each week discuss new products they looked at but did not buy. Some women have not bought for up to a year as they have enough products to last them. It's like a little support group.
I will say foundation buying is one of the most personal and sometimes difficult things. In one brand I might be cool tone, in another warm and another neutral it depends on the brand. I like this one but oh there is a new one out I want to try it. You like Clinique enjoy it and one day which might never come you will find another one perhaps much cheaper you like better.0
