Council Tax Single Persons Allowance Help

Hi

I live in a property have sole responsibility for the council tax. I have a lodger but I am the only wage coming in for my bills. Am I entitled to any discount as I am a single person the only one paying bills in the property?

Probably a stupid question but worth asking you never know

It depends regarding the single person discount - are the lodgers 'solely or mainly resident' in the property ?

Whether you pay the bills or share them is irrelevant. It is their status that counts. e.g. students don't pay.
Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.

If the property is not their 'sole or main residence' then their status doesn't come in to it. The status of the occupier only comes in to it if they are 'resident' for council tax purposes. It's common for lodgers to be wrongly taken in to account as being 'resident' because their actual resident for council tax purposes hasn't been correctly determined.
