  • Hiya Foxy :)

I've another http://www.islandoffog.org/forum/index.php for grown-ups only with ME; there are lots of forums for everyone with ME; this one excludes children; simply so that "we" I help run it :) can talk like grown-ups about being disabled; be honest about grown-up things

  • Does anyone know of a forum to exchange knowledge about travelling by air with a disability? For example, facilities at airports (Heathrow T5 and Copenhagen in particular). Any experiences on the plane for those of limited mobility. Coping with luggage and so on.

I would be grateful for any pointers.

When I've travelled by air; I've checked prices etc online; then just before I've booked I've phoned the company and double checked with them; I manage at home and in the very very small town I live in, not to need a wheel chair; but I do need one in busy places; i.e. Cities and Airports; they've always been brilliant; I check-in, usually with a friend; they sort my luggage; get me a chair and a "pusher" and at the other end I'm met with a pusher and luggage carrier; until I get handed over to who-ever is picking me up. I get put onto the plane 1st, usually off last; but I've never been made to feel as if I'm trouble

That is very useful. I plan to take my wife to Copenhagen. She cannot walk unaided but with my help she can walk slowly about 25 yards. We have a light fold-up wheelchair and my plan is to be driven to Heathrow and get the driver to help with our two cases while I push the wheelchair to check-in. I hope BA ( or BAA) will then take over and help us to the gate and then the aircraft, the cases having been checked in. I then expect to be helped to our seats and the wheelchair taken off us to be returned in Copenhagen where I trust there will be help to baggage reclaim and on to a pre-arranged car. The same in reverse on return.

I shall prearrange as much as I can, but I value hearing of your experience. I suppose I am nervous as it will be the first time we have been away since my wife's accident two years ago. In any event I should add we are elderly. I am 82 and not as able to lug cases around as I used to be. I believe Denmark is user friendly regarding disabilities.

Thank you, Millburn farm for your help.
