As a specialist gardening instrument talker, welcome to Scotland and the Scotland Board :D

As for being called a weirdo and stuck up, well I'm stuck for words :rotfl:

I think SarahLou has sussed us out pretty well, in 2 months.

Just the weirdos and snobs are all over Scotland, not just Edinburgh!

    Welcome to Glasgow SarahLou! :D

Edit: forgot to say, I've never seen doner meat pakora! (but do believe it exists!) Oh, I live a sheltered life!

Hello - my first ever post!

I moved to Scotland - near Edinburgh - from down South a few months ago... best thing I ever did, I love it!

It's definitely a good idea to spend some time if you can, in areas you might be interested in living in. I had a wee "holiday" up here a couple of months before I moved up and spent a good few days driving round and about, checking out areas/housing etc.

I've found everyone really friendly and helpful so far. At first I found the accent(s) a bit tricky to adjust to but now whenever I speak, it's me that sounds funny :D

As well as the different accent, I noticed people use lots of little phrases and words - some of them I am now using myself without realising (until I speak to someone down South who picks up on it!)

Not much of any use in my post, but good luck to you!!

Glasgow is friendlier and more welcoming than Edinburgh because Edin people only talk to people they know, not much use when you're new to an area. Shopping is much better in Glasgow and going out is cheaper. Houses are cheaper too. There's more culture in Edinburgh but you can get a train through for that. PS I'm from the Edinburgh area so this is not west coast bias.
please do not pick on me for my grammar,I left school at fifteen and worked in the building trade for 55years ,

Seems Limerick is vying for that title

I feel safe in both cities as I do in most places in the world.
  • My husband and I live in the US, and are considering moving to Scotland. We understand that to do so is very difficult. We have visited and love it. I have a deep love for Scotland. I grew up with a grannie who came here from Bellshills, and a great grandmother who came from Motherwell. Someone here told me that it might be easier if I have Scottish relatives. Is this true. My husband is about to retire and we would really like to relocate. Any help would be so appreciated.
